If you're work involves any space-related activities, tell us a bit about what you do. Maybe we can get CCP to create a "Rocket Scientist" medal for those who are doing the good and hard work to make EVE real one day in the far future.

You probably won't find this too surprising. What's cool about being a rocket scientist is, you get to play with real rockets. The thing about not being a rocket scientist is, you have to use a simulator...like we do. I can't really tell you "everything" (due to internet security issues) but I can tell you I happen to know quite a few phds in astrophysics. They find EVE quaint. But, then, they also find Guild Wars 2 quaint. They're glad "we're" dabbling in "space", but they don't really see what they do and what we do as remotely the same thing. SO. Don't be surprised if not many "rocket scientists" respond to your post here.

Also, rocket science is easy, it's mostly just lots of maths.

Studying a degree in astrophysics myself. I love Eve and one of my previous tutors did play Eve, he would never tell me his in game name though haha.

As for not telling people about "everything due to internet security", you make it sound like they're black ops hahaha if they have signed an NDA for their research, something that many physicists have to do, they shouldn't have told you either...

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

You do realize that if the 'Rocket Scientists' make EVE "real" one day, then there are going to be a lot of very confused and very pissed off physicists...?

Many years ago Donna Shirly came to where I work and asked for a study of power sources for a mars rover. I looked at what it would take to make a rover solar powered, showing that it could be done, provided care was taken to use little power. Based on my report, the first two mars rovers were solar powered. (The current one has so much equipment on top that it would shadow the panel excessively.)

Also, I helped design, analyze and do mission planning for this:

Though not strictly a scientist, and probably not holding down a day job of any kind, Herr Wilkus knows quite a bit about rockets and how they can't buy you happiness.

I agree, I hardly see the distinction. To dismiss the mathematics required to min/max spreadsheets online is to dismiss many a great mind.

I happen to be well versed in rocket mechanics, gravitational fields and physics in general. You see, I've been studying these in a practical manner using a program known as Kerbal Space Prograaa...

That post was hilarious. Big smile

Also, back in the day when the ESA still had one of their research facilities in our little town, there used to be a rocket engineer that lived in the apartment above us, was quite an awesome guy, build little guided paper rocket planes for the kids to play with.

Drove his wive to the brink of insanity with that. ;)
