I've been thinking of a way to make the Tengu once again King of Blitzing (alongside the Mach) and came up with this. What if the Tengu was used like this?...

Subsystem
Amplification node
Dissolution Sequencer
Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
Accelerated Ejection Bay
Fuel Catalyst

Highs
Rapid Light Missile IIs x6

Mids
Shield booster (deadspace) 1x
Shield hardener (depends) 2x
AB or MWD 1x
Target painter 2x or 1x (then put shield booster amp)

Lows
BC II x 4 (faction preferrably)

Rigs
Hydraulic Bay x1
Rocket fuel cache partition x2

Cargo Bay

Mobile depot x1
HAM launchers x6

1. Warp into room
2. Drop mobile depot then orbit it
3. Kill all frigs and cruisers
4. Change to HAM launchers
5. Kill all BS and BC
6. Change back to RLML
7. Pick up mobile depot
8. Warp to next room

Has anyone tried testing this tactic or is it too tedious? Your constructive and violent criticisms are all welcome. Big smile

Depending on the mission not all the BS and BC will be in HAM range once the frigates are all dead. Either they spawn very far away (and don't auto aggro) or they just like to orbit you at a range greater than HAM range (Guristas come to mind here). Either way you will you will have to motor over to them. An MWD will help a lot but you are still going to spend time not shooting while you get into range.

You also need to be aware that by going with an MWD you are sacrificing your speed/sig tank. Most L4 Tengu fits I have seen rely at least partially on sig tanking with an AB. With a 900mm sig a MWD'ing Tengu isn't going to sig tank anything so you will have to rely on your actual tank more (the MWD cap penalty and its high cap usage make this harder) or manage aggro more carefully.

That said I have used an MWD fit HAM Tengu in L4s myself and it works just fine. However I am not sure if it is the best ship for blitzing in all cases. The Gravitational Capacitor subsystem is perfect for MWD Tengus by the way, not only will you warp to and from the mission faster but it has a higher base speed than the Fuel Catalyst subsystem as well.

The reason I thought about using RLML as the initial weapon loadout was because HAMs generally suck against elite frigs and cruisers. Even if you put 2 target painters on them, the damage still feels meh. With RLML, this tengu delivers 808 burst dps, possibly one hitting or two hitting elite frigs. HAMs can reach up to 60kms with javelins can kill all BCs at that range while burning to the nearest BS.

Thinking about this method makes me realize it can be a tiresome strategy but it can be done and if done right can complete missions the way a Tengu finishes them like in its former glory days.

My only other comment would be that the moment you hit reload on the RLMLs your DPS will drop like a rock. If you have all the elite frigates dead already then great. If not then HAMs would probably have done the job just as well to begin with. And then you still have to spend time refitting between RLMLs and HAMs during the mission.

I experimented with a RLML Tengu in L4s once. Just once. And never again.
