This isn't a scenario where a week old character is reported with an offensive name, which i imagine happens fairly frequently. The individual here has had the same name for 7 years which, to put into perspective as others have mentioned, is longer than many employees have been working for CCP itself. This character has openly flown around and participated in new eden for over 85 months with no or minimum protest, objection, or grievance.

Just because nobody reported him for 7 years, doesn't mean that the wasn't offensive.

And what about the other 332 using the word 'anal' in their name?

How long have they been around?

Like I said in the previous post, go and report them if it bothers you that much.

Still you must consider that, CCP also considers it an abuse of the petition system to use it for metagaming purposes. For example, mustering fake outrage over a name and filing a petition to simply force a name change to attack another player.

Yet the name got changed, which means there was no foul play in petitioning it.

It doesn't though. You are missing the point.... but that's par for the course around here. If you have no problem with the inconsistency on blatant display here, then I'm not surprised you'd miss the point.

But that's the thing, there's no inconsistancy here. Name got reported, it got changed. The ones that haven't been reported haven't been changed.

Oh.....not exactly. I know of at least one other case - where a character was petitioned purely for metagame reasons, name was forcibly changed - and then restored once the *ahem* 'less than honorable' intentions came to light.

It is really quite simple. If his name was changed because of the word "Anal" due to that name offending someone then all names with the word "Anal" should also be changed.

Otherwise the name change was personal and by doing so abused the petition system.

So... basically, after seven years of having it, one special snowflake out of an unknown number of special snowflakes that could have been filing vexatious petitions against him throughout those years gets offended, and....

Wait on a second, if the words Anal Canal are so offensive, why aren't they censored on the forums?

What exactly is wrong with these words? Even used together? Why was it reported? Because it offended some special snowflake on a crusade against 'undesirables' ruining his afk experience?

You know what they call this in the real world? PC madness. PC madness is a sign that you've been huffing too much chalk.

Boo ******* hoo.
The more people know you exist, the more likely your name is to get reported. Now you can whine and cry about it, like the entitled ***** you are, but unless the person goes full exceptional individual and admits to gaming the system, there's jack **** you can do.

*A euphemism. Not 'an'. Unless you're pronouncing it OOF-emism. And yes, we're all adults here, so even if it is one, what's wrong with a little euphemism? Frankly, I'm not seeing it. Just because someone names themselves 'buthole' in a different way doesn't make it a euphemism. You really have to fish and stretch your interpretations to get there.

Just another label for butt hole which is what I am sure the player was after.

Apparently cracked down on.

My theory is that the petition system got used as a weapon on someone who otherwise broke no rules.

And if this means "enforcement only by complaint" then the rules or enforcement thereof is at risk of looking arbitrary and an advantage of "he who complains the most wins".

This could be very bad for the legitimacy of said rules and those who enforce it. Everybody will not be better off in the long term.

It is not as you said 'the butt hole' please refer to this. It is a very specific area.

My dear, I can assure you that if you put 'an' in front of any word that started with any hard y-like sound in an essay submitted to any academic professional, you would be corrected, and much more harshly than I did too because it would affect your grade. You don't say, 'an yoo-phemism'. Say it out loud, go ahead, it sounds just as stupid as 'an yellow car' or 'an hero' doesn't it? Why did I use 'an hero'? Because people make the same mistake you just made all the time with both letters H and Y. I see people write 'a hour' in emails and I always know it's an intern somewhere that's writing it, fresh out of the US 'education' system.
