The majority of the comments for that article sound exactly like the carebear whine threads/posts we see on these forums. Makes me wonder.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

I think you're on to something. It's clear to me!

Carebears are well-adjusted human beings who foolishly try to apply real world ethics when playing EVE.

Those article comments are so one-sided. Not one single person congratulated that clever thief!

Maybe we should add a few comments to the article to even things up. Just off the top:

umadbro?

can i haz ur stuff?

well played, sir!

It has nothing to do with being well-adjusted. I will rob you, kill you, gank you, lie to you (as long as it's not related to a legit mercenary contract), and cause you terrible suffering in EVE, if it suits my own goals. In real life, I've never hurt another human being, never cheated on taxes, and don't have the slightest of misdemeanors on my record. Am I a maladjusted human being?

What this has to do with is the fact that despite all the laws we have in society, the first and foremost line of defense against crime is your own judgment, which decides how you act and what precautions you take. That is the one little important aspect lost on both the article's commentators, and the whiny carebears who plead for their hands to be held in this game. They've grown fat and complacent through their feeling of entitlement, and then act surprised and offended when they're taken advantage of.

Just so I'm clear, as I'm lost as to what the purpose of this thread is?

1) Real life criminals like to play EVE?,

2) EvE makes you into a criminal?

and/or

3) I thought I'd start a debate about the moral parallels between IRL crime and EvE?

(Please choose your stupid answer of choice)

Although the person writing the letter has severe issues with spelling and grammar, he did have a few points. If you lived in a high-risk neighborhood, would you leave your kitchen window open?

One of the things people seem to forget about criminal activity is that only rarely is it prevented by third parties. The only thing that will effectively protect you from crime is being as prepared for it as you can. That being said, blaming the victim is wrong in any circumstance (except for EVE, whiny carebears all deserve it). Still, there are many things someone can do to reduce the likely hood that they will be a victim of a crime (e.g. in my hometown on the subway there was a man mugging people with a shotgun late at night. He tended to go after people preoccupied with mp3 players, laptops, smartphones and the like. How to make oneself less of a target? Pay attention, and don't take out expensive electronics late at night when there are few people on the train...).

One more time, for the people in the back with hearing aids on:

EvE != Real life

I guess everyone who plays GTA (50% of teenage boys..?) has a secret desire to both **** a prostitute, then murder her to "get a refund"?

Of course.

Also, you read the daily fail. There's a lot wrong with you.

"Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." -Soviet infantry manual,

Lol.

In some country's it is an offence to leave belongings on show, tempting the weak willed.

2 years for the thief, 6 months for the entraper.

A crime has happened against society and the perps need punishing, simples.

you seem to have problems distinguishing between computer games and Real Life. Computer games are exactly what they say they are 'games' real life is something differently entirely. You sir are a total idiot/ troll if you think the burgler needs defending in this situation- especially by placing comments like 'well played, sir!'
such a ******** argument- needs to be posted in 'out of pod' forums instead tbh

I'm with Brick on this one- make thouse carebearing b******s squeal..
