Talos isn't a great ship for L3 missions. The large guns have trouble hitting smaller targets (mostly cruisers and frigatesin L3s, with some battlecruisers) because of the tracking and sig radius of the guns and it doesn't have a great tank.

I understand your argument however...

Recall that my intent is to stand off at 100+km. At that range the NPCs simply chase me in a straight line, and their dps is negligible so I'd say my limited tank is no longer a problem.

They will be at, or very close to, my optimal range, with zero angular velocity and zero rate of closure. Doesn't that mean I'll have very little trouble hitting them?

If I am correct, this means my victory should be almost inevitable.

A Tornado is good for that. However, it won't work in missions where the rats use missiles.

The fit I have used in the past is:

[Tornado, Sniper]
Reactor Control Unit II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II

Large Shield Extender II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Sensor Booster II, Targeting Range Script
Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script
Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I

1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma L
1400mm Howitzer Artillery II, Republic Fleet Phased Plasma L

Medium Ancillary Current Router I
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II
Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I

The idea here is once you warp in, start burning away from the rats. Good idea is to set a keep at range distance of about 100km.

Except that not all missions allow you to warp in at range and an attack battlecruiser can't have a microjump drive, hence you'll have to start the missions by pulling range quickly.

If you don't mind potentially being a couple webs away from losing the ship, it should work. Just don't lose those 5 light scout drones you can pack into a Talos. Get webbed and scrammed by a close-orbiting frigate and the drones are the only thing that will get you out.

Since you have some drone skills, the Myrmidon will serve you well. With Sentry-Drones it combines good dps, range and versatility with a strong armor tank

Its also the stepping stone to the Dominix, a cheap and safe ship for lvl 4 missions

No, best way to run L4 missions is in a BS. In particular, a Marauder or Pirate Faction BS.

Wouldn't that be lovely *sigh*.

About 3 months of training if I stay absolutely focused on that one goal, and I suppose I can mine enough ice in that time to pay for it if I don't buy anything else.

In the meantime, there shall be T1's in my life Lol

Don't rush into expensive ships to fast, It's better to have decent core skills first. Flying in expensive ships without decent skills to back it up might end you up in tears. T1 boats do just fine for missions, just takes a little longer.

So many options, I'm almost overwhelmed.

Your advice makes sense though; I do like the versatility of drones, and my skills do point me in the Gallente/Hybrid direction or Amarr/Laser. Either make good choices for me I think.

I should have enclosed my words with [facetious][/facetious] Shocked

I agree... I use a Helios for getting around fast, and dipping into LoSec for Relic/Data sites, but that is likely to be my only T2 for a while. Heck, a few days ago I was down to 26million ISK and I'm now grinding ice to buy and fit one of these "suggestions".

Nah, I doubt I'll even have a T2 BS for Christmas -next- year Sad

yup, that mission was a nasty surprise when I got it for the first time

"Its just a lvl 3, nothing to care about ... hey wait a second, where did my armor go? WTFFFF"

there are freak missions like that in every tier. The Blockade is also quite hard for a lvl 3. Or Mission of Mercy for lvl 2.

The blockade on level 4 is extremely tough, probably the toughest Level 4 there is purely because there is one room, the NPC's can neut to 30km and can tracking disrupt you from over 60. I always try to bring a friend for this and I think the best way is to use cruise missiles from over 100km away to avoid all damage entirely.

I personally like to run an AC mach and brawl, but I run very shiny and use an MWD

Talking more,

Flying crazier,

And drinking more
