Lesson 1: When you are suspect flagged from repping a POS engaged in a wardec, do not remain stationary, even if you are "just outside the shield".

This is why. A gank Talos, with an appropriately stealthy warp-in, can four-volley a pair of stationary Ospreys (two volleys each) without batting an eye.

Orbit that POS at full speed. You're a target waiting to get ganked. (In case you were wondering, the 'Geddon was repping guns.)

Lesson 2: Play stupid station games, win stupid station prizes.

A hard lesson re-learned on my part. At least I had gotten a bunch of kills in it first. My killer was at half structure when I targeted him, and remained there until I died, in spite of my relatively high DPS. Talk about #rekt.

Lesson 3: When engaged in a complex Wardec engagement on a POS with lots of WTs, suspects, and non-suspects, Safety settings are your friend.

Oops. Interestingly enough, he made it inside the POS shields before CONCORD responded, and his ship simply exploded without CONCORD landing on grid. Unfortunately, this meant that his wreck was not salvageable.

To sum up: I've been flying solo entirely too long, and I'm looking forward to good fights in the future.

Game on....

Always nice to see someone learn from their mistakes rather than rage that it's all someone else's fault.

Good job.

Lesson 4: Don't post about errors you have made on C&P.

You will get no end of mocking from people that make more mistakes than you do, but will *never* admit one.

Came expecting Bronson to be teaching lessons.

Realized he was the one learning lessons.

Chuckled while reading.

Left satisfied.

Looking for mocking..... none found.

Honestly, after all the shiptoast whining to get something nerfed cause someone lost a ship, it's refreshing to see someone go 'hey, I screwed up, my bad.'

Lesson 4: Beware the suspect hauler who eludes your warp scramble attempt because he's stabbed and jumps you on-station in a Cynabal instead of a hauler.

Bad things happen if you do this.

Corollary to Lesson 4: If you're going to be foolish enough to do this, at least drop off the loot you picked up first. Yes, I failed to do this.

Heh, hammack understands the game very well and is a fun guy to get in fights with.

In reference to lesson 4, it is worthwhile to mention that you have a 60 sec weapons timer when you engage so you cant dock or jump to another system.

I convo'd him with a 'gf' (and some mad props) after the fight and he was very gracious. I wish more players were like him.

This is true and always good to be aware of, but posting lessons about basic game mechanics seems far less entertaining than lessons about meta-stuff.

Lesson 5: When showing up for a POS bash, having everyone fit with the same doctrine is key. I showed up to one yesterday in a RR Domi fit that had been posted to participants, but missed a key change to that fit that that was posted later. Fortunately, all it cost us was some time and some well-deserved profanity over voice comms. I quickly refit and we got back to work.

The tower still died.

Lesson 6: Large POS guns in hisec are pretty much worthless. The above-mentioned POS had a rather impressive array of large pulse laser and large autocannon batteries. Their paper DPS should have melted us, but we easily speed-tanked most of the incoming DPS in slow-boating battleships and remote-repped the rest. If they had dedicated the same PG resources to small and medium AC batteries, we would have had a much tougher go of it.

Lesson 7: For the love of all that is good and holy, when you get wardecced, move everything that you can out of your POS. (For that matter, don't store stuff that you're not using there ever if you can help it.) Stuff in production, yeah, that's stuck there, but massive stores of datacores, RAMs, Interfaces, etc. that can't possibly all have been in use? Yeah, get those out as soon as the war is declared, and certainly before people start shooting at your POS.

Lesson 8: Tengu Grib is a man of his word. Some time ago, he promised me one Fedo for a particular feat of forum warrioring and today he delivered. Now..I may feast....

Lesson 9: When an aggressor accepts a surrender in a wardec but advises the defenders to GTFO for 24 hours, you GTFO. Especially if said defenders include 'ratting newbros with relatively expensive pods.

Wait, you ATE the Fedo? Fml. Also, confirming I am in fact a man of my word. If a bit forgetful.

If you are trying to negotiate a surrender with your attackers, who have one of their guys in system...while you are trying to repair your guns...while they are asking "we can still shoot you until you pay, right?".....don't obliviously answer "yes" while using this to rep with...and even then....get your pod out!!! Then after that...don't come back into the nearest station'd system with an empty ship...and leave your pod on grid AGAIN!

Example of #7, Oh, whats that, you need a freighter to clean up with.... (his other maint dropped a legacy rigged hulk, among other things)

Counter-point to #6, with enough webs, anything is possible. But yes, you still need smaller guns to do something to the smaller ships. (sadly, each smaller lvl of gun takes slightly more than 50% of the fitting, so its not exactly a 4-2-1 deal for the fitting costs) Also, one word....bastion.

Lesson 10, if you get dec'd, hire friggin allies...that makes people a little less willing to hang their tails in the wind for the hours it will take to RF/kill your indy tower...

Lesson 10: When you play the POS-busting game, you eventually lose. Not included were the defensive mods which my war targets rightfully stole. All industry arrays had been wisely taken down.

Corollary to Lesson 10: When researching potential war targets, make sure you don't mistake a bunch of new-ish hisec miners with red killboards for an industrial wing of a large and active wormhole corp. Mad props to the guys mentioned in the kill above, they turned the tables on me in epic fashion.

Lesson 11: Sometimes, "We didn't want that tower anyways" means exactly what it sounds like it means. Since Crius, I've been running a small POS to play around with industry and research. It was neat and somewhat profitable, but it was also kind of a time sink and limited my more...aggressive behaviors. Taking it down and selling it would have been a pain, so I left it running. Although I lost some ISK in the deal, it saved me some time and headache. Time > ISK in my book.

Lesson 12: Learn to spot a surrender scam and use it to your advantage. Anything not attached to a surrender offer, such as contracting an Orca to someone or transferring 1Bil ISK directly to a personal wallet, is a scam. (I didn't fall for either.) Demanding more than someone has at risk for a surrender is generally not a good idea either. Mentioning that your surrender is based on some bloated hourly ISK income isn't really a good idea because it may cause someone to deliberately draw out negotiations. (I totally did this.)

Lesson 13: Infinite skill queues will make dodging wardecs that much easier. My war targets threatened to stick all manner of wardecs on me to which I replied "I have stuff to do IRL, so what?" Before, this retort was something of an empty threat, but with infinite skill queues, it is far more legitimate. I'm totally not taking a long hiatus, but a short one may be in order with the holidays coming and the time sink of my tower removed. Said hiatus to start after I finish out the wardec.... Twisted

Something most people don't realize is that faction gun batteries have a signature resolution one class smaller than non-faction gun batteries. A faction small AC will actually track a frigate reasonably well, and with a web that frigate is toast. In my book, that's the main reason to use them, not their enhanced damage or reduced fitting.

It's fine because it highlights all the tryhards so you can ridicule them.
