Long story short :

I have ransomed people for PLEX (as an ingame item) before. But how does that work as actually gifting it as added in Hyperion

Lets say I got a nice 2b Mission Boat scrambled and my prey is willing to pay ransom.

Would it be legit to ransom him for game time. i.e. give me a month of game time now or get wasted ?

As its basically still more or less a standard in game item.


Of course just taking the money and buying plex works too, though I am wondering what GMs / The EULA has to say about that.

Especially if I would decide to not honor the ransom and kill the pleb anyway (just wondering). Pirate

you're ransoming for an ingame item, should be OK, provided that the victim is not being forced to pay RL cash for the PLEX.

"PLEX or your ship dies"
(contract)

OR
"PLEX or your ship dies"
"I have 750m ISK ... take that instead?"
"OK"

should both be OK exchanges in the event of shooting the other guy anyway.

There are definitely rules against encouraging someone to spend RL money on PLEX for scams. I assume the same rules apply to both honored and dishonored ransom situations.

If the client is not spending RL money but already possesses the PLEX or can source it without spending RL cash that rule won't apply. That rule exists to protect CCP from credit card fraud, as scam clients are considered a high chargeback fraud risk.

Sabriz got it. Telling someone to go buy you plex or else can get you into good trouble. Go for isk, then "assets" if plex comes up at that point I do not see an issue.

I am just here to snuggle and do spy stuff.

I always ask for isk if i do ransom anyone. I've never forced somebody to buy the PLEX to contract to me, that's a bit harsh tbh.

Hell, i've even settled for a simple prostitute contracted to me to end a war.

What can i say, i'm cheap and easy.

I can't be bothered to go searching for it right now, but a dev did make a statement once that if people were encouraging people to buy a plex or GTC to then scam them, it's against the rules, since you are requesting they spend actual money to do so.

To the point, yes, I think it should be a legitimate ransom tactic, no different than requiring the ransom to be a PLEX contracted to you.
