How do I create a custom Overview without screwing up the defaults?

So I want to create a couple of custom overviews, but I'm having trouble doing so without screwing up the default overview settings.

So I create a new tab. I then open Overview Settings and see a list of tabs I have created with their dropdown menus to select overview settings. This is where the issue occurs. If I select the blank option for "Overview Preset," and I go to the tab "Tab Presets" to change what shows, it acts as though I have General selected, despite choosing the blank preset.

If I happen to change anything to what appears in that overview, it automatically changes and saves it to the General preset. This makes no sense!

How do I just create a custom Overview without screwing up the presets? Why is it so hard?

Export the one you have now then make a new one, if you mess up just import the original one. And simply choose names that are different from the base settings.

Yes, yes I am. Thanks for noticing.

This guide is outdated now, but it explains your problem. Editing any unsaved tab will edit all of the unsaved tabs. You need to save each tab by right clicking the tab and selecting "Save type selection as". Once you have saved the profile it will not be edited when you adjust other tabs.
