So I really like a lot of Crucible. But, something is lost. All the gallente ships are turning black or black and brown. What's up with this? I mean yeah I know we are getting custom paint jobs. But I feel as if the ishkur is loosing something and something is wrong if we have to take an extra step to change the ishkur back to the green it was.


Dear CCP,

Is this all about custom pain jobs? If it is, please give the pain jobs to the players to build. Like there could be a blue print you can buy a batlte ship sized blue print called Intaki red. It produced "B.S. Intaki Red" and it can only be used on battleships and it can use PI materials too. Please don't leave the community in a dark shadow world and have to pay aur for color to be breathed onto their ships.

It seems all the ships are slowly, very slowly changing into the same black and grey blobs, not good Cry

They are giving the ships one uniform colour scheme so that when they introduce ship customisation it will be with responses like "Oh god, yes!! CCP rules!"

Instead of. "Meh, I like the color of my ship just the way it is, no need to change."

ps. The new skin on the vulture looks sweet. Worth go taking a look at on sisi

The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't.

i think they are doing that so that the ships will be more compatible with custom skins..... kinda like filming actors doing their bit in front of blue screens in movie production then adding the cgi effects later

Everytime you buy something that says "made in china" you are helping the rising unemployment in your own country unless you are from china, Buy locally produced goods and help create more jobs.

Oddly the new colour schemes seem more in line with the 2008 WIS styles ... not the new "look at me I'm in a t-shirt!" eve.

Why there aren't colour sliders on your ship that you can adjust is a mystery to me, I guess CCP wants you to be as free as an ipod user when customizing your ships.

Gallente on Sisi now looks a decent blue, the T1 ships at least. The Deimos looks fantastic on sisi, so does the Astarte. Space camo is still space camo; ugly crap that doesn't make sense.

I am not a programmer or graphic artist type person, but I suppose it has to do with the way textures are applied to the ships, in that they are not an adjustment of base color but an actual full-on texture applied, and that there is no option to just adjust the hue and saturation of a hull given the dynamic lighting and other graphical options in the game.

Its probably because it would be difficult to implement. I don't know how Eve's shader system works, but (real-time) dynamic colour alteration isn't as simple as photoshop... could be seriously resource intensive to do.



But @ the OP; yeah, I kind of agree. I do like the old colour distinction. Hopefully the new V3 process will give us some sexy faction/t2 ships, though :)

yes it typically is a texture
it does have various adjustments mostly relating to how light interacts with the texture, how much it reflects, what the base color is, what color it reflects and so-on.
saturation is more a function of the ambient light, the more light the higher the saturation, hue is determined in the color choice (pick from a palette)

Now there is the outside chance a graphics card will render it black if the card cant handle the advanced lighting.
I'll have a better idea when I can actually see the ship

They could go either route. More logically you would turn in your ship hull, some PI products, and some AUR for labor and get the finished (painted) product.

To the purchaser it would be the same either way, to get the paint job done you need the raw player made materials and spend a little isk on top (or cash if you prefer).

Looks like the drab colors are decided, for now, at least as the default colors. IMO it's only so people are encouraged to use the custom color feature, whenever it gets added. I really really hope it's not a plot to get people to buy AUR.

Yep. Although I have to admit I haven't noticed ships becoming brown and black blobs on Sisi. Quite the contrary.

I keep everything turned up though, perhaps it's an issue with lower shader settings that is making them look that way. If that's the case, they should address it if possible. Lower detail should not necessarily mean "all the same color".

You know, CCP could announce that they were removing subscription fees from the game entirely, and every player is getting 10 billion isk deposited into their account - still people would find something to complain about.
