I have a novel idea to address the questions about sniping vs scan/grid warp mechanics. Why not give some of the sniper platforms a significantly off grid range thus "Over the horizon".

Now befor we flame me too much hear me out. If you were to give them a range of say 0.5Au but they have to get thier target fix from a frig/cruiser mod, and maybe even a warfare link command ship, then give these weps a giant sig spread based on distance to the grid. This would give a second facet to snipers and snipe fleets. Not to mention new specialist roles for frigs and cruiser hulls that might otherwise be forced out by the new bc debates.

Pros- Sniper support would need to be scanned down the same way for a warp fix, but their location isnt instantly known.
- Sniper fleets would require specialist support for fire direction promoting fleet diversity

Cons - fire control sub caps would have a high mortality
- dmg from snipe turrets would need to be significantly balanced and checked to be viable but not withering
- fc's would now have to have many more scouts to track in on indirect fire groups that are moving

Just a silly idea. And one Ill come out and say has as many problems as possibilities given the current way things work. Might be another way to give hybrids something unique to.

Oh and Ive ignored the omg complexity of any attempt to code for off grid targeting and fire. I would assume something from the scan/probe solar system map but yeah it would be rough to actully write.

So flame on.

I had similar idea for POS anchored weapons.

Face it - anything offgrid that shoots at your fleet , even if it's as tough as a titan would die quickly when a close range fleet jumps on top of it.

A POS however could have a couple of long range guns but also close ranged defenses. There's a skill (in corp management) that lets you take control of POS guns. Couple that with a fast frigate with "laser pointing module" and a fleet that has "the home turf" has some nice DPS advantage.

This is an idea I have tossed about before as well. People are concerned that it would be too easy to have a dozen of these in a system, one person warps in to a target, boom, dead.

Give these guns a very long lock time, even with the targeting assistance, and give the guns themselves a very high signature. That way they will so very little real damage to small targets. Suddenly, you have a good anti-capital weapon.
