I'd like to ask everyone here...

What is the cost of going into FanFest? I know, that ticket costs 120 EU/14 PLEX, but what then? do I have to pay for a plane, hotel, food etc? Are there any hidden costs?

I'd like to start stacking money for it, but I have to know, how much do I need.

Beer money, Food, spending money for shiny things + fan fest ticket last time I took £500 cash and didn't have much change. Then theirs flights travel to and from the hotel on both sides of the trip, hotel and sight seeing if your into that sort of thing.

All in all I think Fan Fest cost me £1200 last time.

On a side note if you arrange for a coach company to pick you up from your hotel, book it early so if they forget to pick you up you still have time to get to the airport in time for your flight.

Reykjavik is pretty small, I got dropped off at the bus terminal and walked to my hostel. It was 3,500 isk for a round trip ticket from the airport to the bus station. that said the drop off and pick up doesn't add too much. and fanfest is in March this year so it will probably be dark and cold, so maybe the hotel drop off is a good idea.

The hidden cost I'd say is that everything cost a bit more than I was expecting. I'd guess I probably spent around $700 on stuff, and I was staying a few extra days. I think I got out 10,000 isk each of the first 3 days I was there, and just used a credit card the other days. I wanted to get a nice dinner but didn't really want to spend 6,000 isk for one meal. Hot dogs were pretty easy to get around 380 isk, and there was an awesome hamburger place (Hamborgara Bullan) with a meal deal for 1,400 isk.

Ticket and hotel costs you should probably be able to look up. I would suggest picking up a few extras on the fanfest ticket. the Blue Lagoon trip is pretty awesome, I think it might also include transport to the airport after. I'm not completely sure how that was handled, so if you plan to leave Sunday night you might want to check that out. Most tour operators have a blue lagoon trip as well and I'm pretty sure it is about the same price. And the golden circle is nice to see a bit outside of the city.

oh and if you are a drinker be sure to buy some booze at the duty free on your way in. The airport has a very nice duty free selection!

I was flying out of London, so I saved a bit on airfare from what I'd normally pay, Think I spent around $2,000 total. I'd for sure budget at least that much for next time.

Thanks for your answers, guys.

I'm natural walker and I've planned on walking every day (I want to fly from Frankfurt a/Main on 16th), because Iceland rocks. But is it possible to pay without credit card? Are there any ATM's where I can pay out money from german bank? I haven't got any credit card and not trying to get one. But, if it's really required, I could get it... This could give me problems as I'm not that old, and my bank surely won't give it to me that easy.

I don't drink, so I won't need it anyway.

About the plane, it will cost me 300 euro on fly there and back. I think that I should have about 2000 euro to spend on it, maybe more, maybe less, depending on how much I'll spend there.

I believe you can also pay using your Debit card, if the card you have can be used for purchases as opposed to just withdrawing cash. However, that said, there certainly are ATM's where you can withdraw cash, as well as a couple of banks where you can do the same.

Also, adding my +1 to the Blue Lagoon - if you get the chance, go pay it a visit.

i went in 07, going again in 15, you pay the 120 or so usd for the ticket, then you got flight, hotel, transportation, food, drinks, and add ons. for comparison, the wife and i went out to dinner, i got a burger, she got a lamb steak and we had a drink (soda) in 07 this cost us $85. Your debt/CC should automatically do the currency conversion.

Hey hey Big smile

So, easiest way to get to Iceland is through the budget icelandic airline WOW Air. They do super cheap flights to Keflavik from all over Europe.

There are also a lot of hotels and hostels in Reykjavik that are pretty cool to stay at:

Room With A View
KEX Hostel
CenterHotels
Apartment K

You also don't need to have a credit card to pay for stuff in Iceland. Debit cards are perfectly fine, and are preferred. You can buy anything from a car to a coffee with your debit card, so don't worry about it. The most widely accepted cards are VISA, VISA Electron and Maestro. Most places also accept MasterCard. American Express is accepted in some places but not all. Smile

You can also visit most of the banks downtown for foreign exchange, or do it at the airport when you arrive.

@ CCP Falcon let's say I may or may not have 147 plex stowed away in jita. My question is, would it be possible to work something out with you guys to pay for a plane ticket, rooming and obviously the fanfest ticket with plex?

I've just been looking at accommodation in Reykjavik and if you don't mind sleeping in a dormitory you can stay for 6 nights for £100. My self I've booked a single room for six nights for € 338. Their are options for people on a budget if you look.
