if you launch a pos for yourself and not the corp you are in do you still need roles granted to you to use it or can you use it without any worries all for yourself

A POS is considered by the game as a corporate asset rather than a personal one. As such, you can only launch and anchor one for your (non-NPC) corp. Many people here have, in a sense, a "personal" POS only in that we have set up a 1 or 2 man corp to hold it.
