So, if you dislike the game so much, why do you still play?

Buddy of mine lives in Nullsec (Providence), he is actually safer there than Hisec or Lowsec! Why do people think that playing in Nullsec means you have balls? Also many of the people there who are not taking part in a group fights seem to be flying around in cheap ships to minimize losses.

I'm not saying that miners in Hisec should be able to compete with nullsec miners, but I am saying don't blow the difficulty of nullsec out of proportion.

The key difference is the inhabitant of nullsec put in measures to make their space safer, while people in highsec do nothing.

if they are quitting its probably because EVE is continually a stale, broken, skill-less and imbalalanced pos where risk averse cowards are rewarded for beating up on casual players and noobs in high sec.

Meanwhile derps come to the forums claiming that the MTU drone aggression bug was an intended mechanic and we should just accept that sociopaths have it oh-so-easy in EVE. Roll

If EVE weren't so brokenly easy and so gentle on the sociopaths, we wouldn't have a forum filled with these life-less degenerates who somehow think the game is supposed to be designed to reward risk-averse cowards who have gotten **** on in every other pvp game. And we might be seeing more players instead of a decline.

Hi All,

I've just uploaded to SoundCloud the 3rd part of this popular series. Thank you for continuing to listen and reflect!

Some of us are just too young to recall the Incarna fiasco or the time when CCP was caught cheating at its own game. James 315 isn't; he was there.

The Endless History of Nerf Demands

I've just uploaded to SoundCloud the 4th part of James 315's 'Manifesto II'.

These days you only need to read down the list of headings in EVE-O's Crime and Punishment sub-forum to find examples of carebears bawling for 'yet another nerf' to suicide ganking.

In the latest excerpt from James 315's seminal deconstruction of the carebear mindset, he turns to the subject of the game-changing nerfs they've already had.

In each case it is we, the gankers, who have had to adapt, to up our game. And we have done so, to the credit of all involved.

Is this still going on? The only people that even remotely care are already part of CODE, and they don't need to listen to it, the tl;dr version works.

Perhaps need is too strong, but certainly I enjoy listening to this excellent ongoing series. I find it both enlightening and entertaining.

Why so hostile? This game is suppose to be fun.

Keep it up Sasha!

Hi Lucas, and thanks for giving me the opportunity to point out that quite a few Code supporters and even CODEdot Alliance members remain unaware of the process of which they form a part. It helps to root us in a backstory which is highly relevant to recent events, and which must be understood in order for those of us with an eye to the future to be able to help shape that future with confidence.

If you follow the MinerBumping blog at all, you'll know that we achieve a fair number of conversions from carebear/miner to fully-fledged Code Enforcer. Some of these converts read all they can get their 'hands' on about the New Order, including James 315's earlier writings.

But there exist, of course, those for whom the written word is not their preferred means of acquiring new information. For them, I hope, the recordings make a welcome addition to the available sources.

I listened too it. Seems a bit heavy in speculation.

High sec miners are indeed a threat to Eve as a whole but on a level much closer to home.

They scare away new players from Eve.

Whenever nullsec executes a major fight. Eve ends up in the news. Tens of thousands of new players are drawn to the game because of it.

But before those players even reach nullsec, they are kidnapped by the highsec carebear population and get bored out of the game before they can reach the real content.

New players arrive in a high sec system and say "wow so this is Eve huh?" then a carebear jumps on him and says "let me show you Eve" Veldspar mining. Mission running "This is Eve" he says and the player ends up believing him because everyone in earshot will confirm that these things are in fact what Eve is about.

We all live in Eve and more players are good for all of us. But while nullsec draws new players. High sec abuses their privilege of being the first people to interact with new players and use that to scare them away.

What we have to do is suppress the high sec players with violence whenever they try to corrupt new players. All the while we need to emphasize the importance of groups like RVB, Eve Uni and even Brave Collective as an alternative to get the true eve experience.

But new players can only hold their breath for so long. As Eve drops them waist deep into the noxious gases of the high sec waste pile. We need to grab their hand and pull them up into the fresh air of null sec before they suffocate.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

James 315 wrote the piece in April 2012, and it seems to have been designed so that there was a balance between claims for which there was already evidence (nerf history) and speculation (would the carebears continue to demand nerfs to Highsec PvP?). The implication being, of course, that their begging would continue as before. Unless I've misunderstood you that is. Please correct me if I have.

The general thrust of the whole Manifesto II has, I think, been largely vindicated by subsequent events. In other words, carebears are still asking CCP to nerf Highsec suicide ganking (Freighters, now, for example).

Of course, James 315 was a Nullsec player before turning his gaze Highsec-wards, so the points you make further into your post are pleasantly familiar.

Perhaps I could do with some of that 'fresh air of null sec'.

But then high sec bears have always been asking for a nerf to suicide ganking. They did it years before the manifesto and they are still doing it now. Chances are that they will be doing it 5 years from now and a prediction of that would earn no credit either.

All CCP has done is give them a noose to hang themselves with in the form of the Freighter changes that allowed them to tank their Freighters to a pretty large degree.

But all they did was fit cargo expanders instead which let them carry even more things but crippled their already weak tank. Making them easier to gank.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

Absolutely. And your suggestions in teaching them about those player groups is very warranted.

The problem is these players are being introduced to these offer forms of gameplay by players who are primarily interested in "harvesting tears" out of them.

They are expecting a player who gets a dose of emergent gameplay to think, "gee, that looks like fun!". It is not likely to happen when the person is goading them in local, and then they find themselves on a blog being mocked and having their character defamed.

I agree with what you've said, but the solution is to first and foremost provide this form of gameplay in a much less hostile and childish way. Until that changes, it is reasonable to expect these players to think, "wtf is wrong with this kid" and ignore the styles of gameplay said kid chooses to engage in.

I was lucky that I was introduced to emergent gameplay by watching others get blown to smithereens. If I was the victim and convo'd after for the sake of my tears, I'm not sure I'd appreciate such gameplay as much.

Hey guys.
