Thus far I've separately been accused of "hiding", "sneaking", and my personal favourite: "cowardice" (for not fighting a T2 frigate in my unarmed ship ShockedLol )!

So it's not just me....

I had a guy in an AF nearly frothing with rage that I wouldn't come out and fight in some losec system I was exploring. And I'm thinking, "Dude, I'm in an Imicus. With no drones, combat or otherwise. What am I supposed to do, valiantly bump you until I explode?"

Scanned stuff. However, the spot for the Scanner left my Magnate light on propulsion, and the time it takes to fly 50-100 km to a can has made me swap my fit for an AB/MWD instead.

Patriotic as it is to fly a Magnate, every other T1 explorer has at least 4 midslots so doesn't have to make this choice.

The Magnate sucks compared to the Imicus or Heron. You need those mids. Prop mod, data, relic, and cargo scanners.

More lows are handy too if you need to armor-tank, and I like the Imicus for the decent drone bay because I can double-duty my scanning ship as a salvager with some salvage drones.

In a T1 explorer? You might as well varnish an eggshell. :-)

That extra mid is for a scram. Not a scanner. Since CCP killed loot spew why bother.? Thanks for the loot reduction all you people lacking the motor skills to do something as easy as grab the correct cans after you hack a ship wreck.

Having those midslots won't save you if you get pointed. I use the magnate because it's the only one that have 4 lows. I put 4 stabs in that *****. Unless you get pointed by three long points, or 5 scrams, you won't get held. Yes, your resolution, and lock on range suffers, but i'm not fighting, i'm targeting a can. I'd rather err on survivablity.

True. I fill mine with nanofiber structure mods (or cargo expanders, if I'm salvaging).

Still, a few extra hitpoints may make the difference between an escape and waking up in a clone vat. This is less of an issue now that rats don't spawn in exploration sites, though. It's embarrassing to die to an NPC rat. (Is that true in null as well? I know NPC Sleepers still spawn in WH sites.)
