Dunno about "joke" but the idea is still solid. Fundamentally, though, it needs to be able to maintain somewhere between 30 and 75? presets per overview configuration, 5 just isn't very useful. And that, ultimately, is the challenge, since experienced players won't waste time only sharing 5 presets, and new players have a hard time bridging to useful overviews without importing external downloads since the overview is so confusing in the first place.

I'd love to just see them bite the bullet and store all presets when importing/exporting/saving, even at the expense of eliminating overview history.

Call it 500k accounts, 1.5 million characters, and a packed size of somewhere around 5KB for ~50 overview presets, is at most 7GB of data for all possible characters assuming every single character has a maximum of overview setups. Realistically, it's going to be a few hundred megabytes of data accessed in a day at most, which just isn't that much these days.

Just a little bit of an update... we are looking into some options to offer a few more presets as an advanced feature.
Total of 15 presets is the number have in mind right now.
Don't forget that presets are actually not deleted when a link is clicked, so clicking a few links can import a lot of presets.

Have it been looked into how hard would it be to add more tabs to overview? I assume its hardcoded in the spaghetti and tons of other spaghetti code assumes there can be only 5 tabs, but have there been work put into assesing the MD needed to change that so we can have more tabs?

So I noticed that the way standings are chosen is based on the ordering in the appearances tab of overview settings. I thought I remembered that there was some precedence applied in the past to determine this that was unrelated to overview settings. I.e. I thought it used to be personal standings > corp standings > alliance standings.

So if my alliance had someone's alliance set positive standings, but I didn't like them and set them negative standings that they'd show up (e.g. in local using colortags) with the negative colortag. But I tested this just now, and it seems this doesn't matter at all any more. If my colortag ordering is excellent > good > bad > terrible then this person would show up as good standings.

On the overview this isn't a huge deal just a minor inconvenience since you can combine with background to get all the information. However in local, which uses only colortags, it is now impossible to have rational settings! Let's say I try to set up my overview in the current scheme and I want people who are excellent standing to show above criminal because I don't care if someone with excellent standing is criminal or not, I still won't be shooting them. But I want criminal to show above bad/terrible standing so that in lowsec (for example) I know if I have to take criminal myself to attack them. So this means excellent > criminal > terrible in my colortags settings. But I also want to have people with bad personal standings show above people with good corp/alliance standings (as mentioned above). This is now impossible!

tl;dr: Please add someway to determine the standing that is displayed for colortags based on where the standing comes from instead of just what the standing is on the list in the appearances overview tab.

edit: derived standings just don't make sense as far as I can tell: http://puu.sh/baMog/dee5bd089a.jpg

This.
It should not be impossible to have personal standings take precedence over corp/alliance standings without losing criminal/suspect icons in local.

Please allow us some method of setting the order of precedence to personal > corp > alliance standings.

Loading overview profiles is a more destructive operation than intended because it overwrites presets with the same names. For that matter attempting to share a profile that includes tabs that aren't saved as presets doesn't work, which is counterintuitive. If you can possibly untie this system from user presets, please do.

Yeah its better than I expected, to setup the 18 presets of our corp overview, I just make people click three "installation overview" then the final one.

Obviously since I use 18, I'd suggest that you bump the limit to 20 instead of 15 hehe :p

I've not read this thread so forgive if redundant, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a decent starter preset for people coming into Faction Warfare. As an example, it's a daily event that new guys start shooting at friendlies because they are > -5 sec status.

I need to play with the new system but +1 for working on overview.

Yes, we're going to die, but you're coming with us!

There needs to be a way to flush a large number of presets, without reverting to 100% default overview settings.

By this i mean a multi-select or similar, instead of the current right click+delete.

presets .. tabs.... this is all great stuff but unless the overview "set up" mechanics are made "intuitive" it all just talk..

lets start with explanations of what the various items are. then look at what kind of information is really important, then display it NOT double negative in reverse order.

if you can make industries "overview" more interactive and intuitive... do the same thing for the Display overview. might even include a " test" or "demo" mode that would allow you to actually see what will be shown as you select the actual settings.

THE BIG SECRET..? he who can get a PHD in Overview setting.. WINS!

help the rest of us

Sharing overview settings = good. Screwing up everyone's existing settings = bad. VERY BAD! I log in after the Hyperion update and now all 5 of my tabs show the "General" configuration, and all of the custom settings that I so painstakenly configured before are now gone. Totally. WTF??? Shocked

Right.

How do I remove the "Load defaults to tab" option when I right click a tab, including all the silly overview settings there (General, Mining, etc.)?
