Shoot me for working at the place, but what is it with game developers and ikea, I never seen as much ikea stuff (beside in ikea itself) than in game developers offices, here at CCP and elsewhere. They specially seem to like the expedit.

Is it just because it is low budget? or is there some secrect deal?Roll

just something random I wonder about, guess I have nothing better to do atm :)

because young people these days have no taste, go to your local estate auction and you can get really nice furniture, like french provincial for the price of the lumber. Granted its 2x or more the amount you would pay at ikea, but is not made of press board.

Ikea's stuff is an IQ test. If you can't assemble it, you are not smart enough to survive the upcoming Alien Invasion.

holes for cables, use a drill? drawer? make one and put a plastic insert in? both of those are easy, and if you don't have tools, ask around, as long as you don't break them, I'm sure friends/family won't mind and will probably offer help or at least some tips.
I've had a desk from one of those auctions since I was 6 (I'm 20 now) and I'm just starting to consider replacing the top. it's got an inch thick high-density fiberboard surface and solid steel (or at least it feels like they are) legs/back. and all of that was acquired for about $30 Canadian.

why not just around back and use zip ties? As for drawers made for paper clips, really are we such a shallow people that a drawer for paperclips is what we prize? My advice is to buy something nice, and use a desk organizer.

lol Ikea is a major distributor used by lots of big names. Many movie studios get their stuff from Ikea too

in the tv show Sopranos, they had the exact same dishware and glassware that i have, from ikea! lol

Ikea is just a really good store. They have huge stock and quality products, and pretty cheap. Their products also seem to change from year to year so what you bought at Idea a couple years ago probably isnt even available anymore. I think this is a good thing, since it adds diversity to all of our kitchens, instead of everyone drinking out of Tony Soprano's glasses =p

You'd drill holes in antique furniture?

I'd kill for any kind of organisational aid on my desk, it doesn't even have drawers. You spelled Akita wrong in your signature by the way. :p

well the drawer would not be just for paperclips. it could be used for any loose stationary you have.
if it were antique, I wouldn't put holes in it. but he was asking about guide holes for wires. I don't mind dropping the cables off the back, I was just presenting an option.
