hi all
is there any consensus in EVE community as to how how ship behaves in warp? how long does it take to cover the distance of certain number of AU? how long the ship accelerates and decelerates? any formulas out there?
also, does ship's warp speed affect gate jumping times?

pretty sure all of that information is in the dev blog they released when they announced the warp changes that happened.. last year? or something.

yeah, I saw it, and the speed formula v = k.e^(k.t) doesnt make sense because v already equals k, which is max warp speed, at time t=0.

No, this is not a correct interpretation.

k affects acceleration and deceleration. It is not the same as max warp speed.

first, at t=0 the speed v must be 0 also (or in our case 3/4 of max subwarp speed which is infinitesimally small compared to AU/s speeds.
second, from that very link:

Quote:
For the acceleration phase, k is equal to the ship’s maximum warp speed (in AU/s).
For the deceleration phase, k is equal to the ship’s maximum warp speed (in AU/s) divided by 3, but with a maximum value of 2.

I'm finding it kind of hard to disagree with you here seeing as how e^0 is 1.

No. A jump is more comparable to going from one website to another. Your internet connection may somehat affect it (and the time to load grid on the other side) but no ship values affect the jumping process. Bad graphics cards such as mine may cause a drop in framerate when jumping or loading grid.

Except that, time is not 0 when you enter warp as far as I know (I do have a hangover though, my brain is much less focussed than its normal fuzzy state).

Align time and the time to get up to at least 3/4 speed to enter warp affect the initial time value.

So e won't be 1.

But. I'll freely admit thst my memory could be very fuzzy on this. Basic math is simple otherwise.

I think it's obvious that Fozzie meant:
x=e^(k.t)-1, thus v=k.(e^(k.t)-1)

This is what separates the hard core gamer nerds from the average gamer. I'm not going to hate on them though because they're the ones that make up cool formulas that make everything work.

I don't hate the gamer, it's just that maths and I don't go well with each other.
