Why do people try to act so tough and bigshot in this game?

It's similar to "prison law." The more big, bad, tough, and/or rich you make yourself seem, the less the general rabble want to "mess" with you.

It's a double edged sword though. The less the general rabble want to mess with you the more the "elite shankers" want to "get to know you." Twisted

Best in prison to wash yourself in the toilet. They then put you in solitary and keep you from the general population. Lol

By the way, since we're already talking, do you want to buy a rifter? I've got the cheapest rifters in Metropolis. If you can find a cheaper rifter, buy it!

The players of this game eternally crack me up.

People talk like big shot tough guys in a geek computer game... is that not beyond ironic?

People always talking about how much isk they have, how uber at pvp they are with almost no kills on their profile (it's always their main who has the kills... right?), how uber at ganking they are (that's so difficult isn't it?), how fail everyone else is...

examples:
.

They do this because it isnt real life and no one is going to punch them. Remember on the interweb you are anonymous and everyone is 6 feet tall and built like a wrestler. Sadly the reality is somewhat lacking, so they overcompensate by stating how awesome they are in a video game instead.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

It's a game.

All I heard was trolling that this is a game. It is not. By extension, you are doing it wrong.
It is a persistent MMO world.

Games have a start, they have and. They have have a winner. They have a definition of deciding when the game is over and who to declare the winner / winning team.

Eve doesnt stop just because you do. Eve does not declare a winner. The closest we get to having a game in eve is the subset minigame called Alliance tournament.

Well as a communication student I can tell you that influencing people to do or believe stuff is way more easy then someone might think. Couple this with the fact that 75% of this world isn't really that intelligent (based on the level of education) and then you would know the reason why the dumbest commercials and etc. actually work. (I learn how to make them and how to make them as effective as possible)

The point is that allot of these people are the kind of douche bags you see on the internet today. They finally have the chance to become dominant, use it as a vent for negative energy, to have the euphoric feeling from success or just to cover up their small peen. (Please note that I say allot, by all means I don't say that everyone is like this) But I never really bother when these people start acting 1337 because I just love to troll and these people really are way to easy for this.

Just watch them rage and enjoy their tears from less of self-esteem Big smile

@ OP

*smiling gently*

If someone is boasting that way, at least in my eyes he/she became very small.

If someone is really good in something, he or she does not need to boast about his/her (imaginary?) doings, because the others already know that.

Simply ignore them.

I personally consider the silent ones potentially more respectable :)
