Extra damage from overheating (after Crius)

I experience since Crius that overheating causes way more damage than before the expansion (like double). The module you overheat itself, but also the surrounding modules get damage faster. Something changed with Crius.

This was noticed in not just wormholes (different WH effects), but also in nullsec. Is anyone else experiencing this?

overheating one gun cause damage to all guns .. that was before update too so i dont see difference

Amak, that isn't what Zara is getting at I believe.

Done a few tests just now, and compared against EFT values. (So EFT says I should have 3 mins, whereas in game I'm burning out in around 1min-1min 30sec). Also noticed an inordinate amount of damage on mods along side it.

Then on the flip side, tested an invuln, and the damn thing would not take damage, then out of no where, the shield booster next to it (not being overheated) jumped from 2% to 90% damage.

Just seems a bit inconsistent currently. Will try to do some more testing later on today. Few members in fleet did notice it as well during a recent fight, expecting to be able to overheat neuts / hardeners for longer than they actually managed.

I am fully aware that heating mods damages the ones alongside it, and if heating both they take more damage etc etc.

The thing with shield booster happened to me as well on a dread was over heating invul 2 slots next to booster and he went from no damage to 68% damage toooo fast.

@Zara: I thought it's just me thinking about more damage, but what also happened was me overheating HAM's, then not using them for 3-4 minutes but i kept the pre-heat option ON incase i find something to shoot at, and my heat bar was up to the 80% heat when i was *pre-heating* but not actually using the module, and when i was turning pre-heat off it is cooling down, but at really slow rate.. Not saying it is something about HAM's but that's the only weapon that made me have that problem.

I saw something similar with overheating a web. The Web did not take any heat damage at all but the adjacent modules were well cooked.

I've never found overheating very reliable before crius let alone after (not really played enough recently to know if anything has changed) - had the ping of a module burning out (along with the module burning out) happen way too many times 1-3 cycles of non-heat later after I've stopped overheating it atleast 2 cycles short of burning it out.

So far, I've tested an Ishtar and a Legion, both in Hisec and in C2 W-space (no effect), on TQ. The Ishtar came up about 30 seconds short of what EFT says I should be, both in W-space and in Hisec:

Ishtar: Expected 2m 8s (10MN Afterburner II, midslot 1)
- W-space: 1m 38s
- Hisec: 1m 37s

The Legion was only off by around 10 seconds: Expected 2m 16s (10MN Afterburner II, midslot 1)
- W-Space: 2m 1s
- W-Space: 2m 10s
*Note: My hisec test was skewed because I forgot to wait for things to cool down.

(Yeah, my overheating skills aren't that great)


I've heard of issues with pirate cruisers, but haven't had a chance to do any further testing. From the sound of things so far in this thread, I would try to test the theory that overheating gets better as the Techlevel increases.

If anyone with a ship could test a little bit and get your numbers to Corbexx, he could take them to CCP and see what they broke.

you need much more than 1 sample case to draw a relevant conclusion.
