Hello guys =)
My character was Caldari born, but she is now an Amarr warrior (I blame the govern't =(
I change my mind a lot, so now I ended up with a cluster f*** of skills that which I don't really use. I was first started as a Gallente user (because I want to be different to my corp mates, where 98% of them fly missile boat), then for some reason I switched to Amarr platform thanks to their pretty looking ships. Because at one point I was dedicated to the Gallentean, I have T2 drones in my grasp, and because I am partially an Amarrian, I am now mainly an Armor Tanker and have some decent turret (Not specialization skils, just the basic gunnery skills like rapid firing, ..etc) and energy management skills (skills for laser gun). But I am now bored with the laser, as I am sick of using microwave and radio crystal on my mega pulse. So now I want to try out the hybrid platform to refresh myself. I wanted to train for Caldari but I don't think it would be a good idea since I had already invested cluster amount of times on my armor tanking skills. So what you guys think? Any advice? What?

By the way please don't make fun of me for being a gishy person Cry

I really think you should considder getting T2 guns before you start crosstraining, so that way you can fly a fully functional bs while training towards doing the same as a different race. If you really want to try flying drone boats however, just grab a myrm, it shouldn't take more than 3-4 days.

But you really should not underestimate the great feeling of having t2 guns and frig/cruiser/bs V on a single race. It makes me feel like no matter what I train, I have a solid background to fall back on.

What the above poster said.

You can train up all races, but having to use only t1 guns sucks both at pve and pvp, except maybe missiles. So focus one one race, train up t2 large guns for that, bs5 if u can and then change to next if u want to keep it in the sub-cap levels.

Since U already are trained in amarr, gallant is a good choice. If u don't feel like training for lasors again, train up the gunnery support which are common to both anyway. U'll need rapid firing and sharpshooter at 5 for large t2 turrets. so that will be at least 15 days by which time u should have decided on hybrid or lasers.

U can play with t1 guns, but t2 are the real deal.

Okay, thank you guys. I think I just fell in love with hybrid guns.

The main bad thing about hybrids: 10-second reloading when the clip runs out and when changing ammo types. That's likely what will bug you the most when coming from lasers.

I beleive the hybrid buff has reduced that to 5 seconds. Not so bad really from my experience on the test server.

OP, train whatever you like. Better to train ship skills than to train a tech 2 weapon system that you may find you don't like and won't use. Whereas ship skills are bound to get you something worthwhile (multiple options for using the skill as opposed to a gunnery spec).

I love my Gallente specced characters. But mainly for the drones. The Domi and Ishtar in particular. The Myrm I can't stand the looks of. WTF, a rudder in space? That being said one of them has tech II hybrids, and I will probably train the other for tech II hybrids as well simply to be able to get the most out of the Gallente and Caldari ships. I also plan to make use of the Talos (which is imo the best of the tier 3 BCs, because it has a dronebay).

Train whatever suits your fancy, it is a game. But I prioritize ship skills, for the reasons stated above.

Well apparently you haven't trained T2 lasers yet to use Scorch. It gives you a great increase in effective range blasters won't offer you. I don't see how training hybrids will change your boredom; short-range hybrids also have no damage type flexibility and have even less range. There's a reason people usually don't pick them as weapon of choice. If you want a drone boat you can also train for the Arbitrator, Harbinger and Armageddon line of ships. With every ship that can utilize drones you'd rather want T2 drones anyway, even as Caldari pilot.

When you grow into bigger ships Amarr ships even become better, it's the only race of which actually all 3 T1 battleships are used a lot, of which the Geddon is also a ship that can use a lot of drones.

If you want to be able to pick damage type, better cross train to Minmatar ships or Caldari missile boats. They both use more trypes of ammo. Minmatar still have the best line of ships that excel in both PvE and PvP. There's a reason they're called Winmatar. Caldari missile boats are very good for PvE although some are used in PvP as well.

I was aiming for the Railgun. Been playing with my dominix and hyperion lately, and I have to say they are my favorites. Dominix is pretty fun for exploration and hyperion's railguns are useful in lvl4 mission running. I can't wait for the expansion patch to gain more damage boost. I like Amarr, but I focus more on appearance and style over function and reliability. However I do feel a bit of regret from switching to Gallente platforms.

It is indeed now 5 seconds looking at the patch notes.
