Ah, our learning curve in the eyes of the average WoW player

WoW players see Eve's learning curve like an ad for Step It Up: All In?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Eve is dying days are as common as muck.

If you're going to celebrate something at least make it something more note worthy.

Well look what i have here that is relevant and totally not the work of someone else.......definitely not gullyStraight.

What caused the 07/2010 spike? The 18 month Walking in Stations debacle?

ask Chribba or Gully.
id just be taking educated guesses and in an unprecedented move for GD will not be presenting my (possibly) misinformed opinion as fact.
You called? Lol

I have no idea, I've been playing for just an year a couple of days ago... come to think of it, Happy Birthday Gully, too!

Anyway, people that know better than me debated the data in that thread.

On a side note, I can't wait till this month is over to add it to the Death-o-meter! I predict a big spike... Repent, sinful forum people, the end of the world is near! Twisted

Make space glamorous! Is EVE dying or not? Ask the EVE-O Death-o-meter!

Can the death-o-meter be annotated with significant expansions/bugs/patches/events/bad decisions from the spiked periods? I recognize a few but hardly all. Ones before RMR are before my time.

That would be :MAJOR effort: but I can try (eventually) if you post the ones you recognize.

Can we get the Death-O-Meter stickied into some sort of graffic widget at the top of the website? We can link to it every time someone makes a forecast.

Oh and "eve is dying".

There now I've done my part for the end of July spike.

One of the recurring themes in EVE Online is that "EVE is dying." We see it today with the declining ACU number. We saw it a few years ago during the Summer of Rage. Actually, we hear someone bring up the idea all the time. But how long has EVE been dying?

The answer may surprise people. Chribba did a search of the forums and discovered the first mention of "EVE is dying" was posted by Madox on 30 July 2003:

i think people forget that we are paying for a service here.

if you were at a restaurant and they told you your food would be ready in an hour then 15 minutes after the hour they told you it would instead take an additional hour AND THEN they don't bring your meal out for another two hours without telling you, something would be seriously wrong.

now image that restaurant has 5000 people in it.

we are the customers here. we are paying for a service. we have every right to question what is going on. now granted, isk refunds for missed productivity and asking for some sort of public appology that all the devs signed is just plain silly. however, a dev CAN take 35 seconds out of their busy schedule and make a small post on the devblog letting the paying customers know what is going on.

i think that is all anybody is really asking for.

*eve is dying*

That's right. The players began proclaiming that EVE is dying 11 years ago today. Apparently EVE is afflicted with a long, lingering, illness.

EvE is dying i don't think so.

The only reason we have seen the numbers decline is that people in the USA are on their summer break.

Once winter hits the USA thats where most of the player base live EvE will come alive again.

So where are these people are getting their facts from OP ?

As far as I see it EvE is working as intended and the weekends we do get allot of EvE players logging on to EvE.

whether or not you chose to get your head out of the sand, the stats and even ccp info clearly states there is a huge problem.

we know what it is but ccp would rather let eve die than do anything about it.

plus there are lots of other games coming out (elite dangerous for example) that people will move to...

Everything is fine. Now, lets watch CCP blow massive chunks of money on crappy games with weak tie-ins instead of making EvE amazing.

All that money spent on other crappy failures of games could really have spiced EvE up....I made that argument before it all happened and just look at where we are now. Happy EvE is dying day!

Catering to the bears over the last 10 years is probably all that saved EVE from a slow death.

Kinda like global warming of the 90's stopped the ice age that was predicted in the late 70's, early 80's.
