Launcher stuck again (just like every time)

Hey there,

once again, my launcher's stuck. It always happens randomly either during the creation of the *.patch file, or when applying the patch. Waiting a few hours may show a 100% completion, but it never actually is completed and the support doesn't know how to fix this either.

Well, I'm, sick and tired of this crap, could somebody please export the EVE_ONLINE_811393-813270_WIN.PATCH file for me, please?

You could try using repair tool. It worked for me most times when the launcher borks.

No, that freezes too. I've done whatever the support wanted me to and more, nothing fixes those freezes. I always needed to manually download the patches. Then for some idiotic reason they decided not to allow that anymore and now I need to download the entire game every time and do the manual install. I'm seriously sick of it, I still can't understand why they just won't get rid of the launcher. It never worked, why is it still there?!?

What do you "special" people do to make your launchers break? It seems there's a small group of elite players who manage to get their launcher to break every time, while the majority of people have no issues (for example, my launcher has never ever ever frozen). That leads me to the conclusion that there must be either something specific about your setup or something you are doing to make it break.

Next time it gets to patch day, try this:
1. Open launcher
2. Touch nothing (but the lamp)
3. Take an enormous dump
4. {repeat until launcher has finished} Find something to do that doesn't involve your computer.
5. ???
6. Profit (is this one old now? Am I officially uncool?)

Deleting your cache, while it will delete your overview settings, can potentially solve this problem.

My computer is fine, I've run the launcher on 3 different setups (XP, Vista, 7) with different modules, with different security softwares, etc. over the years and it always froze since the moment they implemented it. When I reinstall the game using the offline launcher and the 2 payloads, the first patch will usually install fine, the second might or might not freeze visually but still finish (the progress suddenly jump to 100% then, but the launcher won't start the game, but you can still do so using the exefile.exe in \bin\) and the 3rd patch almost always breaks the launcher for good. Sometimes it's the second already.

This has happened regardless of where I live, regardless of the computer I use, regardless of whether or not I do anything with the PC during that time and regardless of whether I have a firewall/Anti-Virus/whatever installed or not. The traceroutes have always been fine.

My launcher is fine but my Ishtar is boned because even though I have drone skills it's telling me that I lack basic drone skills!

And yet it never happens to me.

How strange, I must have a different launcher.

No, you are right, it HAS to be the launcher, it couldn't possibly be anything at your end.

Getting pretty sick of users like you.

Sort yourself out ffs.

I'm with McCandless on this one. If you take a step back and look at the situation, you'd see that the common variable in your problems is you. I don;t have you in my setup and it works fine. Ramona has no you and can patch and launch fine every time. You on the other hand have you, and problems occur. User error, plain and simple.

I'd go with my usual response of "When you first think it's frozen, it's probably not. Stop touching it and wait". If you think "oh it's frozen, I better close this down and try again", it's likely to lead to badness, kinda like if I switch off my PS4 at the wall because a system update is taking to long.

I've tried both disabling and entirely uninstalling all security, it doesn't help.

Actually he might. Every patch I see people griping about the launcher, and every patch I notice they are a small minority of people, even compared to the small minority of the total population that actually post on these forums as compared to the total number playing the game.

When dealing with a distributed computer application problem, the first thing you try and get a handle on is "Who's affected?". If it's a large amount of your total user base, you look at the backend. If it's limited to one specific location, you look at the network in and out of that area. If it's a (relatively) few scattered users across the entire infrastructure, then it's problably some kind of individual issue or a configuration type problem.

You are not the only person having issues with the launcher - that much is certain. However, I doubt very much that the problem is simply the launcher being bad. More likely it's a combination of the launcher and something on your end not working harmoniously together, which is something that CCP really has no way to fix.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

It is usually antivirus soft blocking it. Disable antivirus for updates and it will work.

Wrong, since I read what you wrote, and yet still typed that. I take it you mean because you wrong about you "waiting for a few hours", right? Well First off, I've had the pleasure of working in a support position in a large business, and I know that "a few hours" differs greatly person to person.

I also know that if it gets stuck, then a few hours later "may show a 100% completion, but it never actually is completed" then it wasn't stuck, hence it's progressing in %. 100% may in fact be "nearly done", so leaving it a further "few hours" may result in magical completion.

I also know that 9 times out of 10, when people complain about their launcher issues, when talking to them you find out that they shut down their launcher after what is a pretty short amount of time for a large patch to be installed. Remember that it's not just your internet connection, but how fast their server can respond, then however long it takes for the actual patch process to run (which can vary a lot).
