Replace mining with smallholding

What makes mining and industry an inproper path?

Careful there, don't associate the two, they have nothing directly to do with each other. Mining is more comparable to missioning. Industry is just another tool in the "market activities" category. As for mining, I'll confess I was trolling miners a bit here. That said it's also a true statement for almost everyone that wound up training it. Sure you have those few rare people that actually enjoy it. Most though trained those skills when they were new and didn't understand the game, as the starting tutorials kinda point people at mining and missioning, so it's an easy trap to fall into. Most people would not trade 5? mil sp for the ability to engage in nearly the worst isk/hr activity in the game.

These structures should be un-gankable

In highsec, like other anchorable structures you would need a wardec to have enough time to take them down. So yes they certainly would not be suicide gankable. Though I do imagine them to be fairly cheap, 30 mil or so, and have no reinforcement timer.

You complain that mining leads to botting -> your solution is to have something that automatically mines.

It's true actually. I don't have a problem with "automatic mining" (naturally). More importantly, when something is commonly a target for botting, it's probably an indication of a weak gameplay mechanic.

the value of ore (and then modules.. ships... etc) would plummet.

The value of ore is determined by supply, demand, and manipulation. Nobody cares how much *you* value it personally. So long as the gameplay balances it correctly, the prices would not drastically change over the long run.

Mining cannot be removed from Eve, period.

While it can be done in a very unproductive manner that allows one to avoid issues, the truth is that CCP has developed mining for Eve for the sole purpose of providing soft targets for individuals who would otherwise spend money elsewhere looking for easy targets.

Mining isn't about rocks, it's about ganking.

This idea completely fails with regards to wormhole living. Have to side with the "no" crowd.

I've lived in wormholes for about 2 years now. How would mining smallholding possibly be an issue in wormholes? It would work the same way.

It's certainly true that an important part of mining is the risk of getting ganked. That said I think small holding serves that purpose better. I don't envision the structures as being hard to kill, about 1.8 mil effective or so and no reinforcement. This would take a solo ship at 1k dps 30 mins, bring a few more and it would take almost no time at all.

You idiot, nobody likes killing moon harvester arrays, so who would want to kill a veldspar mining piece of skate?

"It could then be replaced with an anchorable smallholding system which would mine automatically but at a much slower rate."

OK... how would that possibly function when the only sites in wormholes to mine are those you either scan out (gravs) or combat sites (occassional veldspar) that despawn when you leave them?

Besides, mining in wormholes is not and should not be an afk activity. You want the ABC goodies, get in your ship and go get them. You stay alert, you should live. You go afk, you should die. Gloriously.

You know, I think I stepped in something earlier that adds about as much value and depth as this suggested idea.

It was a pile of dog ****.

You can give me your stuff now.
