Hello,

I am currently running a late 2009 27' iMac with the follow specs:
Late 2009 IMac 27 Inch
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics
4GM RAM
Quad core i5 2.66GHZ Intel Processor
1TB HD
27Inch screen with 2560 by 1440 pixels

I have had a amazing experience with the computer in terms of amazing visuals, however the graphic card is a dinosaur now so its time to upgrade to something much much more powerful.

The newest iMac with the following specs fills my budget of $2,500 and gets me everything I need.

Mid 2014 iMac 27 Inch
3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
16GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2X8GB
1TB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB GDDR5
27Inch screen with 2560 by 1440 pixels

The reason why I love the iMac is because for $2,500 I get a amazing screen, a reliable computer that will work for years without needing repairs (from my previous experience) and everything comes in a box with 1 cord. So its very easy to set up and its simple ease of mind.

Or I could research into building a custom computer, however then I get into issues of compatibility of what if I do something wrong and $2,500 goes down the drain. I understand PC is a better computer for gaming however there is also allot more knowledge that needs to go into it.

Also EVE graphics do not seem to have full settings for Macs, unlike for Windows operating systems.

Anyone have any suggestions or comments for me please?

*** The monitor is key in the pricing, I will not go below 2560 X 1440 Pixels or below 27'inches ***

Also there is rumours that a Retina Display iMac will becoming out later this year which i will wait for before making any decisions.

Thank you,

Hello Toon,

From my experience I would suggest to buy a PC. I myself bought the 2013 september iMac 27'' with max configuration, it does everything I want, except lets me play EVE. You might want to read this tread about the freezes.

I hope that if you do buy an iMac you will be able to play EVE. I spent 2300 USD on a machine that does not let me play EVE. It seems that this issue does not affect every Mac player, bus there is always a chance that you may be one of the lucky...

Have you looked at the new mac pro? Pricy but very powerful from a graphics and processing standpoint. You could get whatever screen you wanted and even run multiple clients if you ever wanted to do that. Just a thought.

I have a 2011 27" iMac that I run 3 Eve Accounts on at once. Yes, I have the settings turned down, but it works. If I want settings on High I can run 2 accounts. I also have a 2012 MBP that can run 2 accounts with all effects on, or 3 with them on low.

If someone is having trouble running Eve on a newer machine than Im using then its an individual issue, not a system wide issue. I have had trouble with the clones, and with Freezing/Crashing, but only on a very limited basis, reinstallation or simply making a new clone to use resolved in 100% of the cases.

I have a current gen 27" iMac with maxed out specs, and generally it easily handles running 4 client instances at the same time (currently I use the iMac display, and a 30" Dell display). I get occasional freezing issues that usually occur if I do nothing for a while, at which I need to restart the client instance, but otherwise the iMac handles the load well without being overtaxed. Note also that at the same time the box is running a linux vm on vmware fusion, a browser, and iTunes.

A main benefit of the iMac is that it's been completely silent, even with the 4 clients running (all settings on high, if I recall correctly).
