Award-winning actor and Hollywood staple, James Garner, famous for his work on both the big and small screen, died Saturday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 86 years old.

This generation doesnt know this but once upon a time TV was pretty cool.

We had 13 FREE VHF channels. They all competed for your viewing attention so programming and commericals were top-notch. Not a reality show to be seen. Not a talk show with BS talk. Not a News broadcast with a politcal agenda. Not a comedy show that the whole family couldnt watch together. Everything was entertaining or informative.

I remember James Garner from the "Rockford Files" mostly. And his passing is just a reminder that all good things come to an end.

Thanks for the memories.

Quote:
Although he was highly decorated throughout his career, which spanned more than five decades, Garner said he never sought fame as an actor.

“I got into the business to put a roof over my head,” he said. “I wasn’t looking for star status. I just wanted to keep working.”

Those who loved the art of acting and couldnt care less about the "fame" made the best actors. Something in short supply today.

Garner was a consummate actor: comedy, drama, action, suspense, and stunt driver. His body of work is great.

James Garner at his best!

RIP Sad

My mum used to love the Rockford Files, I grew up watching quite a bit of it.

Sad to hear of another classic talent passing.

Snarl.

Anyway I am going to miss him. I loved Space Cowboys.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

He was a great one, especially in "The Rockford Files." My roommate in college watched the reruns religiously everyday, and I was surprised out how great the writing was. I found out later the writer/creator of "The Sopranos" was a Rockford writer. That series is worth checking out, recommended.

Also, James Garner was one of the few well-known actors from Oklahoma. Along with Chuck Norris.

Rockford had the character 'Anthony Boy' Gagglio and The Soprano's had Pauly 'Walnuts' Gualtieri. Cool eh?

Which is why it played so late at night. Just like Three's Company and Soap.

All of which are PG-13 by today's standards.

At this rate "Game of Thrones" will be grade school material in about 40 years.
