i completely agree. Items such as the Ultramarine is a collectible, and they are called a collectible for a reason. Please CCP don't try to replicate any of these historical items!

Looks like we're going in circles here so I'm just going to try to preempt every complaint about this stuff now.


Everything in Eve is a worthless trinket as outlined in EULA section 10B. Mine just happen to be a bit more obvious. And in game terms I'd beg to differ. Virtually every collectable item that wasn't reissued has risen in value over a significant period of time. My interbus shuttles are maturing nicely.

The collectables markets does move up and down of its own accord, like any other eve market. It comes with its own risks such as extremely vague price signals, unquantifiable supply and demand, and being entirely run by and for speculators. Its true that in the long run it generally only moves up, but that is neither bad nor unique. Buying antiques requires either a massive upfront investment, an absurdly long period of time, or both to profit significantly from. Lots of things in Eve work like this, BPOs for example. We're just operating on a much larger and longer scale.
Furthermore CCP can do something that is nearly impossible in any other collectable market, real or otherwise, which is to fabricate perfect, totally indistinguishable forgeries. The US mint could forge as many 1863 indian head pennies as they wanted, but it doesn't mean collectors would do anything but laugh at them. We have no such ability to distinguish between new and old in Eve. If CCP wants to reissue old items with dates or superficial color reskins thats fine. I accept that they're running a business and have finite resources to put towards development. But simply diluting the market with new copies is lazy and exploitative. Arbitrary dev interference in markets is not compelling or fun. It is at best a necessary evil to rebalance the game, in this case it was an entirely unnecessary ploy to gin up new subscriptions without putting any work in.

Well yes they can, but it doesn't make it a good idea. One can wrangle over the semantics of words like "exclusive" for eternity but its pretty clear CCP meant for these items to be finite in number and tied to events. If they want to break with that tradition its their prerogative, but they should make it clear from the outset.

You might not care about the last flight of the Gold Magnate, the endless schemes and stories behind entity's acquisitions, or that moment when somebody committed a Freki to fight in the tourney, but some of us do. Even the items that simply announce "I was here" (or "I paid enough ISK to pretend I was") have their place as nostalgic reminders and luxury baubles for the rich and powerful.

Is it any less valid than obsessing over sov statistics? Or killboard numbers? Or wallet size? Do you think if we asked a non-MMO player they would give even a single crap about the distinction? Its amusing how everybody loves the sand box until people try to do their own thing in it.

Absolutely not. No additional balls should be frozen to have Snowballs reissued.

There are those who have invested heavily to purchase previously frozen balls as collectibles with the expectation that CCP will maintain these items truly "unique" to the history of EVE.

If CCP decides to use balls of dead capsuleers, then it not only devalues our investment, but it is equivalent to spitting on our face.

OP I can understand what you're saying, and for the most part I agree. The only point we disagree on is the Cerebral Accelerator. Personally I think all new people should get 1-2 of these, every new character every time for the rest of eve. Getting new people into ships quicker so they can enjoy Eve more is good. If you overpaid for the implant just to collect it, well too bad for you. Retaining new people is more important than a few angry vets that are not going to unsub over a devalued implant.

But when it comes to ships and clothing, yeah I agree. Limited runs, then retire the item indefinitely.

What you say is definitely valid! I would whole-heartedly agree with you if CCP takes such stance in the future, contingent upon the fact that they do not disrupt the market and historical practices by changing the rarity of old historical collectible items.

During the marketing promotion, CCP made it sound as if this 13 x PLEX bundle purchase is the only way to obtain the Ishukone Special Edition Shirt. Me, being an obsessive and impulsive buyer, but with absolute trust in CCP's honest marketing practices, decided to take the risk by purchasing 39 x PLEXs to obtain three oft hese beautiful collectible shirts. But if CCP initially made it clear that these shirt will be available for 50 cents individually, 4-5 months after the initial release, even Bill Gates wouldn't have purchased bundles of PLEXs to obtain those shirts.

What I am trying to tell you here is that CCP should have been CLEAR FROM THE BEGINNING that these shirts will be available via Noble Exchange for 50 cents.

CCP can make every other NEW CLOTHING available for 1-500 AURUMS! I don't care! But CCP MUST NOT REISSUE LIMITED & SPECIAL EDITION ITEMS!

Indeed, but keep in mind that those would be considered "Limited Edition", which is not necessarily the same as "Special Edition".

A Special Edition can be a unique or limited run item, but this is not always the case. A Special Edition item may simply be something that becomes available before or after the main run of an item... in this case the oportunity to get said items well before the rest of the EVE community.

Unless the promotion includes the word "Limited" in there somewhere (Limited Edition or Limited Special Edition) there is no reason to think that the item will never be available again.

well if they reissued the old alliance tournament prized upto 2 years ago most wouldn't complain :) guardian-vexors for example :)
