Issues, Workarounds & Localization

I'm not sure if this is wholly unique to me, but I've been having issues since I first started using the forums with placing line breaks in my signature. The moment I place a line break the forum tells me that I've exceeded my character count. Just to be on he safe side I tried using tiny URL when I only had 2 links in my signature, but that made no difference what so ever.

Basically, is this working as intended?
If it isn't, is there a workaround?
If it is, then why isn't the error prompt more clear cut and forthcoming about the complete unusability of line breaks?

^These are much easier to read and nicer to look at with line breaks by the way.
