As a new player with limited experience and game time (also I work a lot in real life) I was wondering what would be the bare minimal you could recommend to get into gallente faction warfare? I am looking for fun not money making.

Bare minimal what? SP? It all depends on how you are defining bare minimal. To just join and start blowing **** up, you're ready now. Join the Federal Defense Union (NPC FW Corp). Pay attention to militia chat and available fleets, and join public fleets. An 8 day old character can legitimately change the tide of a battle, especially in frig combat.

Bare minimal SP to be on or near equal footing as the vets? Sooner than you probably think. After 2-3 months of training the right skills you should be able to fly a frig as well as anybody. Assuming no offgrid booster, drug boosters, or pirate implants, a 1v1 between you and another will be all about pilot skills and not about SP. After a certain point large amounts of SP does not make you better in combat it just gives you more options of ships you can fly.

Bare minimal SP to join one of the top FW PvP corps, usually any where from 10 million to 40 million SP depending on the corp. High SP requirements means new recruits are more likely to be able to fly ships required for corp doctrines.

Anyways I would say you have passed the threshold of bare minimum to join FW. Join, start making contacts within the militia, start blowing **** up, and start having fun.

You should be able to fly the derptron with Gallente combat starter skills. I'll leave it to XG or one of his posse to post the fit.

3500+ m/sec, 110+ DPS. Use whatever named blasters you can get on the cheap, same for DCU and MSE. Always use faction ammo, always overheat guns and scram. Approach, don't orbit. Neut will give you the edge in a lot of engagements, and allows you to up-engage in small gangs.

Don't try to brawl down tankier boats (Merlins, Incursus, etc) though if they're cap hungry get in close turn off your MWD, orbit tight and let the neut do it's thing. You might win.

You should be able to put these together for under 2mil each, and use them like the cheap 2isk hooker they are.

As stated above, whatever SP you currently have, is the minimum required to get into some pew pew action. Fly cheap, and yeah, focus on one fit until you are either comfortable with it, or notice something you don't like about how it handles in certain situations, and make a change to it. (give it a good fair chance first though) Always remember that no matter how good your fit or your skills, there are situations where the correct solution is to warp off, many more where the correct solution is to call for backup, and quite a few where the correct solution is to pick a celestial and spam the warp button to try and get your pod out.

Have no fear, unless you start to whine or propose ideas without understanding the ramifications of what you are proposing. Then the ridicule will begin.

This cheap ship is a WHOLE lot of fun and surprisingly sturdy and has good speed. Even without T2 guns it can pack enough of a wallop to leave a nice scorchmark on your target.

They're great in an assault against sniper ships where they can't burn all of you down before you catch 'em.

Prepare to die too, though (that goes without saying, but saying it anyway). The advice in the quote is excellent as well.

just be prepared to die a lot.....and after that, die more ;) ....and after that, die....well, just go out with the aim to improve your ship-fitting and your play style, not to win one of the first hundred fights...that only works, when you undock and fight...and ask...and undock and fight again and again....and in the end, u win

Join one of the bigger gal fw corps , they can show you the ropes in regards to pvp and fits.If you're new to pvp then going at it solo is a tough job.
