Being unemployed. If I had a job I probably wouldn't bother playing MMOs.

Under employed can result in the same situation.

Well after a hard day at the train station where I clean toilets and pickup stuff others trow on the floor, it's just a good feeling to get back to my chamber in the basement, gank some noobs and make them cry so I don't have to put up with my ugly wife.

Started playing for the spaceship setting.

Stayed for the player run economy.

Still here through habit until something better comes along.

Eve is very efficient at reinforcing my misanthropic worldview.

Also I like sandbox games, and spaceships.

I started playing EVE because hooray spaceship MMO. I continue playing EVE because I enjoy performing my little roles that keep the alliance running & the people I work with & under are people whose company I enjoy. Relationships.

I'm motivated by seeing 100k sized blue donuts.

I'm motivated by watching people get dumpstered by 5:1 or greater ratios for fights.

I'm motivated by no skills needed other than those passive things that we train in the sub game

I'm motivated by observing all the dedicated pilots playing on one team.

I'm motivated by all the stagnation in sov space

I'm motivated by the white knights that defend their risk free play.

I'm motivated by the utter futility of an entity with less than 99k players being able to fight back against that donut.

I'm completely out of bull shite.

Well played those in the donut.

You broke the wookie.

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

When I am not at work or otherwise occupied I switch universes into New Eden.

To me, and I'm sure to many, many others, Eve isn't a space-shooter and doesn't have an end-game:

It's another universe for us to spend time in.

CCP: Please sack the game designers and employ more universe designers.

First thing, I'd like to acknowledge the op for starting a thread that hasn't made me confused and inexplicably angry, good job, I approve of this.

As for the attraction to eve.
From the outside, it's hard , really ******* hard and I like a challenging game, eve deliberately excludes the stupid and weak willied.
I get that some of the vets are so used to the way mechanics work in eve that ye don't see it any more
but learning how to "eve" is far from easy an experience. this is a good thing.

Its unique in its player driven economy which i like (I'm crap at this aspect of the game but i find it fascinating) .
The single shard nature and the fact that i "could" **** with literally anyone else that plays this game.

Its harsh arse nature ,
scams are funny lads, really ******* funny, I'm not interested in running one but I rather enjoy that we have the freedom to do so.
if you fall for an obvious one you deserve to be laughed at (to a point).
I'm only now(a year and a half in) getting into PeeeeVP but the Constant threat of it in game is one of eve's defining features, that gives this place an edgy feel that I instantly fell in love with.

love science fiction, always have.

The community here is fantastic.
Hard to click with but nothing worthwhile comes easy.

Ooo, nearly forgot, the devs are excellent here btw , you dont normally see the level of community interaction from a large studio as we get from ccp.

"weak willied"

Some spelling mistakes are just priceless Smile

Thank you good sir.

I have a morbid sense of doom. Like a fly at a Fourth of July picnic, I know a fatal swat awaits some landing.
It's like staring into my own grave knowing I'll be lying in it - the only question is when.

And, to practice my social skills.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

I've always thought Star Trek is neat and loved the idea of being in space.

I don't have a lot of experience with MMOs. My friend plays Defiance and it seems like he never interacts with anyone. Sometimes another player will shoot at the same enemy, but they run off and that's that.

In EVE, it has been my experience that interaction is constant and necessary.

I play EVE because the other players create my content, instead of some poor devs on the short leash hold by some commercial zombies.
I'm a very peaceful player, but the fact that almost everyone i cross in space will want to eat me gives the depth to whatever my activities are at the moment .
I have fun surviving when i'm clever enough. That's my fuel.

After playing this game (on and off) for over ten years I still haven't fully grasped it.
