I have found that this fitting for the ferox is an extremely effective PVE fit if you ahve the right skills. I know prefer it over my drake for lvl 3 missions.

Rail Ferox:
High:
6x Dual 150mm railgun II
Mid:
2x Large Shield Extender II
1x Stasis Wed II
1x Invul Field II
1x 10 Mn Afterburner II
Low:
3x Mag field stab II
1x Damage Control II
Rigs:
2x Med Core Defence field Extender
1x Anti EM screen
Drone bay:
5x Hob Gob II

I would like to see others opinions on this fitting. for PVE and potential PVP

Considering testing it in a group PVP situation to deal with cruisers, frigs and drones.

With the low Dmg of Rails and the Low Range + the terrible scaling of Damage on medium rails you are plain out better off in a Heavy Missile Drake. Your going to max out at less then 300 "Gun" DPS with Antimatter with a range of 14km at the most Damage.

With Heavy Missiles you can go out to 70km for much more Missile Dmg and Fury Missiles eat Battleships. You will have a stronger tank and between painters and precision missiles you will be more accurate,

Drake is definitely worth the 8mil extra on the Price Tag.

Not for a char that has 7 mill sp in gunnery alone and only 500k in missles. Secondly, i get about 300 DPS with t2 charges. an the damage is instant...

However, i see you point. But this is for chars who are already good with guns and dont want to train missles simply to fly one ship.

Or just hop into a hurricane or harby and do much better in both pve and pvp.

Cross train. Seriously, if you don't want missiles, you will find Caldari extremely dissapointing. The Ferox is utterly terrible at PVE compared to the Drake.

(And in fact compared to every other BC out there)

Oh and as an added note - even with relatively low missile SP the Drake still outperforms the Ferox to a ridiculous degree.

The Ferox and the Prophecy are the worst tier 1 BCs. All the tier 1 BCs really lack utility when compared to their tier 2 counterparts. The only roles these ships can serve is some sort of bait to draw a gang in and survive long enough for your gang to arrive.

The problem here is the tier system. When there were learning skills in the game, when you started with very little sp and the rate of gaining sp was much longer tiers may have made sense. You buy the lesser and wait to train into the better tier.

However, now sp comes very quickly at the beginning. There is no reason to buy a lesser tier/lesser ship because very quickly you have the sp for the better tier/better ship. So the time has come for CCP to drop the tiers.

We are going through another expansion now where CCP felt the need to introduce "new" ships (candy). But think of just how much candy they could introduce if they got rid of the tiers in frigates, cruisers, and BCs and redesigned them around roles. The stats and slots could be evened out while providing thses ships roles that would get them flown. Similar to Tech II ships, which have roles and not tiers, lower skilled or players not wanting to spend for tech II or tech III for whatever reason would use let's say a Celestis or an Augorer because they wouldn't necesarilly be the relative **** they are now.

Maybe the Ferox will benefit and find some utility with the hybrid buff, but its only true salvation would come with the removal of the tier concept.

edit- lol at me, mistakenly said projectile buff, that was so last year

Post-buff a 200mm rail Ferox fits easily and does about 400 DPS (inc. drones) at 20km. Still nowhere near as good as a Drake for PVE though.

Actually, i have flown the ferox for a few years. I am far from dissapointed. what i find are lots of folks who have never flown it or have little exp with it bashing it for no more reason than it is popular to do so.

A blaster Ferox and a 220mm AC ferox are greart ships. They do good damge with great range with with bonuses to blasters. Yes, they are NOT the best ships out there but they do well for their cost and flexability.

I know lots of you dont like this fit. But it was a fun fit that i threw together and it works well for me. Better than spendin time trainin missles when i can just hop into a min vessal an get all the benefits of my gun trained char.

I do, however, appreciate the feedback.

P.S. an this fit, with my skills does about 350 max damage every 2.1 seconds.... not bad... an it hits small ***** quite well. I think it would function well as an anti frigate and anti drone platform... chaep, effective, ranged and can still fight close due to the good tracking of the dual 150mms....

Yeah, it really is, sorry. If you actually think that fit "works well" then that speaks more about your lack of experience than the plusses of the ship.

A role dozens of other ships would do much better.

Ferox and Prophecy are nice - you can invent useful ships from their BPCs.

A fun gang of blasterroxes with web+scram are awesome and unexpectable too.

@ above:

6x Neutron Blasters (or Ion's...can't remember which fit)

Invuln II, 10MN MWD, Warp Scrambler 2x Extenders (or 2nd invuln and 1 extender)

3x Mag Stabs and DC/Nano/ i-stab

Rigs:
Em Rig, 2 extender rigs

IIRC its 500+ dps, but needs to be in a gang since its short on tackle gear. You could set it up for better tank or more damage projection if you know you have a dedicated tackle,

Or you can dedicate to tackle if you have logistics.

Personally, I love the Ferox, its always been my fav. ship even though it underperforms when compared to some others. Sometimes I have to turn EFT off and spend 30M and fly around in it and say "yup, this is why I like this ship."

Take it or leave it, but have fun with whichever you do.

To the nay-sayers: Get over it. If you have fun winning or losing in a ship, thats all that matters!

To the rather rude FLurk, I do lvl 4s. Maybe if you actually read what i say, you will see it says,"i prefer this shipfor lvl3s" NOT :all i do is lvl3s"

Scondly i thought i made it clear that i prefer frig hulls and smaller ships to the huge, slow BSes. The BC is about as high as i really wanna go.

I wouldn't call it "Horribly Gimping," I would call it "flying what makes him enjoy the game a little more. I'll never understand why some people are happy to always think their way is the best and anyone who doesn't go that way must be a moron...
