I always liked this one, especially since my buddies and I had a near run in with a black bear when we went camping some years ago.

How do you tell if the bear poop you see is from a brown bear or a black bear?

A brown bear has berries in it's poop and smells a little fishy.
A black bear has bells in it's poop and smells like peppers.

Bear bells, wow.

That trip was pretty awesome, most of it is "you had to be there" kind of humor, and some just silly slapstick shenanigans. One of my favorite (in hindsight) moments was just after hearing the bear roar.

There were three of us on the trip, one has been a boy scout since before he could remember, and two, never been camping before city folk. So, we hear the bear roar, and us two city boys immediately look to Mr Merit Badge for guidance, and do a pretty good job of keeping calm. Mr IwearShortShorts explains to us that if we end up face to face with the bear, we have to make ourselves seem as large as possible, and make noise. Finally, ten minutes into the explanation, he stops, furrows his brow, and says: "Wait no, I think that was for cougars. Nevermind."

"ROOAR!"




We never actually saw the bear, but even after bear bagging our food and cleaning up, we woke up to a big ole paw print next to the tent flap in the morning.

Camping is awesome.
