Nope just pick the right target audience and fill your argument with nothing but the improper use of common debate terminologies instead and accuse the person you are arguing with of using them.( I refrain from using the word debate as you do not know how to do so.) Sit back and stroke your neck beard while eating twinkies and enjoys a good self chuckle.

So would you put up a poll that includes the opinions of people who dont run their accounts with PLEX but use them in other ways?

Seems to me that our opinion on the price of PLEX and how it applies to subscription numbers should also count.

if mine doesn't count yours does not either. So I guess no one wins this argument.

So.... no one counts and the OP should request a thread close?

You have it ass backwards, but you're funny and good natured about it so You can a like regardless.

Tippia is definitely right in this particular discussion, I'm just making fun of the way he does it. Makes it very difficult to argue against when half of what you say is dismissed based on a "fallacy", without ever saying why to back up that assertion.

By the way, I ♥ Tippia.

He can't back it up because he is just pulling terminology's off Google and without fully understanding how to apply them, while make attempts at using them. Now given his general audience EVE players he could have very well just replied solely with " EVE is good" "internet space ships pew pew" and "CCP, ISD , CSM" and everyone would cheer in an uproar.

It is kind of like when someone will use controversial terms to reach their target audience. I will give Tippia credit for knowing his audience well enough to use this tactic. How ever even though most of you agree with him here it does not make him right.
seeing as we only have about 200 replies to these post and maybe 100 unique posters the sample size is to small and he has proven nothing.

You guys agreeing with him here out of the 500,000 EVE accounts while i am sure boost his ego, it means absolutely zero. As you guys make up to small of a sample size to make a difference.

And I think it's funny he still uses straw man out of context and when I have shown him why he uses it out of context he calls that a straw man. but the above quote even though you tend to agree with tippia is a pretty accurate demonstration as to how he conducts a debate.

It is a tactic that will continue to work as long as he stays around his target audience. That of course being you guys who love and support eve and ccp. out side of these forums he would have been laughed at and booed off stage.
Either way he is still wrong and 100 people agreeing with him does not make him right.

But it was a good laugh at anyrate.

Tippia argues with the personality of "David" from Prometheus, condescending, cold, and without regard. Quite possibly, the eve forums could have done this to him, couldn't imagine why, it's a lovely place. It's because of this attitude that you WANT him to be wrong. Chances are, splitting hairs, a+b, he's right. Tippia would call what I just said a Strawman. I hope that through all of this he finally gets a brain. (the strawman that is)

But I feel that many discussions go beyond a + b, that everything is not black and white, we can't know everything. According to Tippia this is not the case. (another strawman, just my opinion though)

However in this discussion you are in the Tippia element, because numbers don't lie, and he's damn good at looking at the numbers.

I wouldn't take it so personally.

You're confusing me with you.

Quote:

No, I could not, because it would have nothing to do with the topic at hand or with the severe inadequacies of your poll and your argumentation. It also wouldn't have yielded the response you're envisioning. Again, this is just some kind of silly straw man you like pulling out because you are utterly incapable of actually responding to the points I and others have made.

Quote:

No, I call that a fundamental misunderstanding of what the term means. What you're doing now, on the other hand — putting words into my mouth because you can't actually address my real point — is a strawman.

Quote:

Just because you don't know what the words mean does not mean that the rest of us are using them improperly. Same goes with your poll: just because you have demonstrated beyond any doubt that you are thoroughly unfamiliar with statistics, probability, polling and sampling methodology does not mean that the arguments we bring up using those fields are incorrect.

Oh, and no, my calling out your fallacies does not constitute improper use. Your reliance on them, however, do. You also have yet to show any such improper use — all you've done so far is show that you don't understand the terms in question. If I were to guess, by the look of it, you tried to look it up on wikipedia and completely misread the condition for success as a condition for use.

The simple fact remains: your poll is irrelevant and fails to fulfil even the rather meaningless purpose you ascribe to it, much less offer any kind of generalisable data.

No, that is actually exactly what I'm saying (just as I did in the bot/nerf-local thread). Or, more specifically in this case, that we can't know anything based on the poll polly has provided.

Or, well… we can know one thing: the number of votes it has received. What those votes actually mean or represent is something rather different altogether.

Hmm... not entierly true.

We know polly wasn't paying attention during Statistics class. Probably too busy grinding ISK for her accounts.

I wish everything was black and white

Unfortunately, my rage levels are too high for this to work for me

Well, sure, I suppose. But that's more a result of his (mis)interpretation of the poll than of the poll itself. P

I don't know why people say such dumb things as this. The truth of a matter is scientific, not democratic lol. Everyone who plays EVE could agree with you and it wouldn't make you 'right'.

It's also funny how you point out that what people are saying here is irrelevant, because it if it, you have even LESS support here than Tippia, dipping your relativity into negative numbers .
