Hey OP, think of it this way: you are in a ship. You get a fleet invite. If you trust a guy, that ship might blow up if he screws you over. Do you really care that much? Maybe not, and you join their fleet and make some friends. That's a different thing then giving someone half of what you own, trusting he will move it to your intended destination.

In the first scenario the worst thing that happens is that you lose a ship and maybe a pod. An acceptable risk, because you will die eventually anyway. In the second scenario you might lose half of everything you own. That risk is unacceptable, and common sense dictates you might allow this guy to transport your stuff using a courier contract with decent reward + collateral.

As a new player I wouldn't be too scared about someone misusing your trust. You don't have super-shiny ships to awox, you are probably not space rich yet, and podding you won't set you back much. You can't pluck a bald chicken, as we say in my country!

Lol.

You can trust people in Eve to a certain extent, but not when it comes to your stuff.

Assume the worst and plan accordingly, some of the time you get a pleasant surprise.

That sounds like somethign I had.

*Dreamy eyes as it's flashback time*

4 years ago, when I was still a newbie that had made good money by helping some older people a corp member asked me if he could loan me 400mil (which at that point was more then 1 PLEX worth).

"stupid" as I was, I did it.

I left the corp, he did too and I've never seen or heard from him ever.
Initially I was kind of pissed he stole my money but then again MY OWN damn fault, should have known better.

So, fast forward about 3.5 years from then, I log in to see my wallet grown by 600mil.

First responce was: Dafuq did that came from, so time to check the transactions and saw that the guy who I loaned money gave me my money back.

I contacted him and he appoligized it took him 3.5 years to return the money back and that he did put 200mil in there as interest for me waiting. He had some major RL stuff happening and had to drop out of game.

Similar has happened to me. I was "loaned" a ton of ISK and assets by a player who then had to leave game due to RL issues. If he ever comes back, it will be here waiting for him + interest.

But that kind of trust has to be earned.

Just follow the famous rule 'Don't fly what you can't afford to lose', which also means 'don't give anybody access to assets you can't afford to lose'.

Then go on and trust anyone you want, based on your gut feeling.
