What's a good Tempest fit for Veratillity?

Could someone link from BC/tell me of a good Tempest fit? I'm skilling it up as I write, and it should be done within 5 days.

I'm thinking of one that is good for general use, or useful in Small-gangs

There are 5 primary ways to fly a PvP Tempest.

Shield Nano
Shield Artillery
Armor AC
Active Armor
Armor Artillery

* The Shield Nano Tempest is fit like a Hurricane with an extra Mid / 800mm Guns and Large Neuts. Not much to explain there.

* Shield Artillery is a weaker tanked version of the standard Maelstrom Alpha Fleet. RCU, 3x Gyro's, TE and DCU, Mids all Tank + MWD. 1400mm in the Highs.

* Armor Autocannon is basically a bigger version of an Armor Cane. 1-2 1600 Plates and 1-2 Gyro's, Mid slots usually have TC's, Sebo's, Duel Webs and such.

* The Active version has a NOS or 2, 2x Large Reps and a Cap Booster, not very viable but a cool niche.

* The Armor Artilley Tempest is a Rare Bird, basically fits into Armor Battleship Gangs, usually has an RCU in the lows with T2 Arety, 1600mm Plate 2x EANM, DCU and a Gyrostab and 1400mm Guns in the High's Sebo's and TC's in the Mids. Armor Artillery is not the best choice but if Minmatars all you can fly.

I would not say there is an all purpose fit but Shield Nano is your absolute Best bet for Small Gangs. A Standby set of 1400mm's/RCU nearby is good if you ever do Shield Alpha Blobs.

Do you know what type of PvP you plan for it?

Depends on what you mean by that; people have two different meanings behind that.

Do you plan to have RR, do you plan to have Tackling Ships or EWAR, will you be camping something, will you be roaming around, are planning to be solo or will 50 of your closest BFF's be joining you?

I'm playing a defensive game guarding 3 lowsec systems and a small string of heavily-fortified POS' , along with around 15-30 people.

So; Camping and roaming to an extent. I'll have a handful of Scorpions helping, and some Triage carriers.

IME, running a BS MWD essentially requires a cap injector. Flying a Pest, your cap concerns are much more pressing compared to a Cane, thanks to BCs having oversized cap for their modules. If you get by without an injector, more power to you.

Obviously, you can swap the point for additional tank if you already have enough tackle in fleet. My opinion of the nano is mixed. On paper, I can keep pace with stuff like nano-Drakes. In practice, I often times go with a full rapefit (3x gyro, 2x TE) and haven't died to stuff running me down. YMMV. The heavy cap injector so I can kite for extended distances and, more importantly, use my neuts offensively to shut down an active tank or pin down a target's cap rather than as a defensive measure against tacklers. To me that's the biggest advantage of the Tempest over the Hurricane: it can function as a slightly range-gimped Curse with loads of DPS against the right targets.

And despite the name, I don't really recommend it too much solo. It works, but a pair of well-flown Drakes or Canes will murder you without even leaving shields. In small gangs, it's great, especially paired with a Huginn to help with the tracking issues of large turrets.

Alara's fit if for a gang with basi support and tacklers.

Otherwise, yeah, your fit is about cookie cutter.

For this fit, if intended to be used in high damage engagements, I would seriously consider dropping a neut for a nos. I would probably also go for Hammerheads and Hobbies instead of Valkyries and Warriors.

A full gank fit would also probably use missile launchers (cruises or torps depending on fitting) and 2xOgres, 2xHammers, 1xHobby for max dps, and drop one nano for a Gyro.

For armour based fits, there's also the big rifter concept, which uses a large armour repper along with one or two plates.

To compete against the new tier 3 BCs such as an armour fit Tornado trying to get in under your guns, you could also fit dual webs to the mids.

I also have to agree that the Pest is extremely difficult to use as a solo boat. The nano fit is very fast for a BS, but against more than two BCs, you will probably die.

Good intel is invaluable here.
