EVE: one client, two osx user accounts question

I have two user accounts on our Mavericks OSX machine and so I moved EVE into the common Applications from the original user Applications folder that it was initially installed in years ago.

When I booted into the second OSX user account (mine, the first is my wife's) I noticed the EVE app had a circle+slash through it. This was indicating a problem with the permissions so I gave myself Read/Write and the icon changed to a normal app icon.

However, when I click to open the App nothing happens. The app bounces once in the dock but the launcher does not appear, nor does a "dot" show up under the doc icon.

Should I reinstall the entire EVE client into the main Applications folder and uninstall the current client+Library files? I know the Library stuff hasn't changed so maybe that's part of the problem although I don't know why the Application Support content would interfere with a second user account on the same system.

Any ideas?

I only have one OS X user.

I'll go into your library and check your Application support files (There is one set for the system, and sometimes Apps have user Application Support).

Check to see if your user has EVE Online in there.
If not, just copy and paste it from your wives account. See if that works.

Beyond that, reinstalling to the main Application Folder is your best choice

(Just remember to save the per character data, so you don't have to redo all your settings)

edit: to access your user > Library and Application Support

Menu bar > Go > (hold Option - This makes the Library option appear) Library > Application Support > EVE Online --Thats the folder your looking for.

On your permission side, I can't see any changes beyond what you have done!

Thanks for the reply Amarisen!

I tested the /Applications install theory on a Macbook Air since it's already installed in the main Applications directory. I logged in as a guest to try and run the app I got the error message that EVE was "damaged or incomplete" despite me giving all users full Read/Write. So, then I decided to make a temporary admin account and this time when trying to launch EVE it gave me the "no permissions" error. I went to Get Info and added full read/Write for the new admin account and then tried launching the app. I knew I would have trouble since the icon was still gray w/pencil+ruler. Sure enough "EVE damaged or incomplete" was the result.

Very strange. I guess I will just stick to a single user account on the iMac for now. I COULD try downloading and running a second client and installing to my user/applications folder (i.e. one client per user account) but I'm not sure how that would interfere with the existing EVE Library files.

There is a possibility that because the Gateway system is per user you may need to set the settings according to each user.

Try this:

Go into Finder and go to the Applications folder where Eve client is. Hopefully you did add it to the root Applications folder and not the user Applications folder.

Assuming the root Application folder right click / CTRL click on the Eve client and choose Open from the menu. This should spit out an error about not being from a certified developer but just open it anyway. Hopefully now it will work for you.

Darryn,

For a moment I thought you had solved it, but unfortunately I get the same non-launch regardless of how I set Gatekeeper. I actually set it to allow Apps from "Anywhere" to test this and it did not work. Sad

The EVE App resides in the root Applications folder however it did not always live here. Original install was to the User/Applications folder many years ago. I moved the App prior to creating a second user account, but perhaps it could still be a problem? I had put in a ticket with our friends at CCP however they have not replied to me as of yet.

If I feel like doing a full reinstall I may trash the App, delete the EVE Online Library folder and start fresh.

Incidentally, my app size is 25.69 gb does the app retain old patch data or other bloat that may cause it to balloon in size? I swear this thing used to be only like 10gb or so.... Ugh

Anyway - thanks for the reply.
