Dial up plays EVE just fine.
It's not about the data capacity. It's about the latency your connection has.

Absolute minimum would be a steady ~4-20 kbps, it's an MMO, it doesn't need a lot of bandwidth, just a steady connection. Pirate At 30 Mbps you should be more than fine, it'll come in handy for patch downloads.
Latency is going to be your biggest issue I think, but there's not a great deal you can do about that.

agreed, I often play on my phone and depending where I am i may have very little signal on a 3g connection. Eve takes nothing in bandwidth to run. As highlighted the issue will be latency.

I used to play eve at work on a usb broadband dongle from sprint when they first came out. The connection was crap, I was getting around 256k and the latency was 100ms

But it was just fine for playing games, fleets weren't and issue because it was a lag fest back then anyways. I would routinely use about 100mb of broadband for an entire 8 hour shift.

think an xDSL 512kb/128kb up/down seems to be the "okay". below that, only depends on latency.

issues will always be patch downloads, but besides that, should be okay-ish.

EVE will still run just fine on a 56k modem...

...good luck trying to download updates at that speed though. Lol

At that point I think I'd just email CCP and ask them to send me a CD...

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

SPeed is irrelevant for in the modern era. Latency on the other hand is relevant.

EDIT : Is this a stealth "look how fast/big my internet is!!!" thread?

Latency and stability of your connection is what matters, not raw speed.

What would it take for a typical release on a 56.6? Like 39 years or something?

I remember 56k, playing call of duty and having to aim ahead of where someone was to hit them. Fun times.

I would pay real life $ if you recorded the sound of an EVE Patch being downloaded via a 56k modem...

Same offer goes to anyone who has a 56k modem and doesnt mind recording 5 minutes or so of EVE Patch.....

I used to run 4 accounts on dialup. EvE is a lightweight when it comes to speed required to play.

24-36 hours give or take a few hours depending on patch size.

I try to be nice and mind my business just shooting lasers at rocks. There is just way too many asshats in New Eden for that to happen.
