What is the sound made when a Laser strikes the hull of a ship

Should it make a sound?
What about the different coloured lasers? Do they make different sounds?

And now that I am on a roll, why are we seeing the lasers at all?
There is nothing to refract the light in deep space.

If CCP got rid of that, we could lessen the work of the art department.

Astronomy says otherwise, it's called Cosmic Dust, dust particles both reflect and scatter light.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

It sounds like an explosion - to the people on board the ship being hit.

The high incident electromagnetic energy evaporates the solid matter being hit, and the vapors expands with such a tremendous force that it shreds the surrounding condensed matter. IE. the area around the hit explodes due to excessive thermal energy at the point of impact.

The same effect can be heard planetside if you fire a small pulsed laser at, say, a sheet of paper. You can get a small 'pop' from a fairly low amount of average energy (but high peak pulse power).

Have you Communicated with your fellow capsuleers today? It is good for the EvE-oconomy and o-kay for you.

I think it sounds like dollar bills cascading into a nullsec RMT cartel overlord's wallet. Pirate

In all seriousness, it'd likely sound like an explosion, as the metal in the ship hull would flash-vaporize from all the energy, and blow out.

After Crius there will just be a loud buzzing noise after your laser fails to activate if your sec status < 5.0.

It's likely an auditory representation of the process of ablation, where the laser essentially "boils" off the top layer of armor. It makes a sizzling or hissing sort of noise, not unlike welding.

Better Questions:
Why do rails and projectiles have a limited firing range? Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son of a ***** in space and whatnot...

Why do missiles only have a maximum range of 200-300km when we currently have missiles in active military service with an operating range of 3000-6000 km?

If you really want to mess with your head, do an analysis on the thickness (or rather the thinness) of the large projectiles.
CCP really needs someone who can do basic math working in the lore dept.

Or, better, if projectiles and hybrids have basically instant acceleration and limitless speed, do the math on the force on the gun barrels. Assume a speed of 100,000 km / hour, and reaching that speed from zero m / s in a gun barrel 100 metres long.

watch SW movies and you clearly see that red makes a different sound than green

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

The laser I worked with made light *tack* *tack* *tack* sounds, but that one was for jewellery and not spaceships, so multiply the volume up accordingly.

I guess a lightning strike emulates the effect of sudden plasmification of material pretty well.

Could be worse. Over in the Battletech universe missiles can only go 1000 meters.

Light travels faster than sound; that is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
