When does Crash improve missile damage?

Is it onlyon smaller, fast moving targets? Just trying to figure out if training for booster drugs is worth it for a bomber/frigate pilot.

It reduces the signature radius explosion of any missile that you fire. That is huge for any target you want to shoot at. The simplest way to put the damage formula:

Target signature * missile explosion velocity / missile explosion radius = speed the target needs to exceed for damage reduction to occur.

Light missile shot at MWDing Atron.

35m * 6 (MWD) * 255 / 30 = damage reduced once the Atron exceeds 1785 m/s.

Take a standard crash and reduce the explosion velocity by 20% to 24m. Recalculating the Atron needs to now exceed 2231 m/s.

Play around with target painters, implants, rigor and flare rigs to get some different numbers.

MY immediate answer to the quistion raised in the thread title would be: usually right after consumption.

But to point you in the right direction here you go.

Thank you for the link, but I had already read that. I'm more wondering about how Crash interacts with the missile damage formula. For example it sounds like...

Torp fired at slow moving BS, structure, or stationary target, there is no benefit because you will already be doing full damage.
Against a BC, I may see a small increase in damage, if the target is exceeding x meters per second.
For a cruiser, x speed, for ftig, y speed.

I'll have to calculate these values, but I have been pointed in the right direction, so thank you all.

Edited to add:

I found the following to be a bit better than the previous wiki link:
