UGLY SHIPS - Vote and Commentary

Greetings,

Well I (and you) have been checking out the SISI stuff - why else would you be here - and I am starting to like the new Raven skin, and still waiting on that new condor - and I fly ORE and am Amarr (though I use Projectiles and Missiles - Mom may have been to fond of the Minnie Mailman we had on Sarum Prime - wink*) and I thought since CCP has said that ships take a great deal of time to remodel we might try this little exercise.

So... Post here 1 (That is ONE) ship of each of the factions (or if you see a pirate one also I suppose Pirate ) Ship - one that is used! {<--- READ THIS YOU BASTARDS], or at leas that you fly... doesn't do much good to revamp a ship that is NEVER FLOWN... lets stick to used ships... that are just FUGLY...

Something like this:

Amarr: FUGLY SHIP 1
Caldari: "
Gallente: "
Minmatar: "
Pirate: "

and lets see if we get a concensus on which ships are TOTALLY in need of a complete revamp AND that are used in game - and we might get some nice action... Enjoy the post and hope we see a good number of contributions.

Caldari - can't think of (most caldari ships are fugly), I don't fly fugly ships. But i'd like to fly caldari Moa, Eagle after the patch, it's worth looking at.

Gallente - can't think of fugly, but the looks of Helios is straight out of traditional gallente 'Curves'

Amarr - most ammar ships shine, major and most often flown ships stand out. Graceful as they are Amarr ships are monumental asset of EvE.

Minmatar - foobarn by deafult, what do you expect of ships made of trash parts and duct tape? Typhoon is a great ship and really disturbs me visually... Cyclone looks like a sucker/intestine parasite. Don't want to say more, think of flat pasta not tape worms

This really most likely belongs in the general forums but I am bored so I will play.

Amarr: Aeon
Caldari: Raven (there are many fugly Caldari ships but this one is the most popular one and is one I fly)
Gallente: Thorax (looks okay if you just look at one half of it, but combined it make me want to cry)

Caldari: Heh, tough one... I'd say Raven... Moa and Osprey are worse, but almost nobody flies them, even their T2 versions are subpar in performance so: unused.

Gallente: Dominix. There are others, but I simply hate the Moby Dix.

Minmatar, Amarr... Can't really say, Most Amarr model look fine to me. Minmatar... Some are awesome, some I can't even understand whether I'm looking at the fore or the aft of their ships =/

CCP, if you're reading this, please change the Typhoon skin to something that doesn't look like a rusty piece of pipe :(

I've got a Panther/Typhoon/Fleet issue, I know what it looks like, and it's horrible :(

Caldari: Caracal, awesome design but the model seriously needs updating.

Gallente: Celestis, just a horrible design.

Amarr: Arbitrator, too flat, what's with the window at the front?

Minmatar: Stabber, same reason as Caracal.

Apparently I like cruisers.

Gallente: Imicus, Celestis

Minmatar: I wouldn't call any "ugly" the models just all need updating. The typhoon especially could use a facelift after both the scorpion and raven got theirs.

minmatar: stabber/fleet stabber/vagabond hull needs some serious work cause it's kinda too junky and it is heavily used

gallente: celestis/arazu/lachesis hull is a very important one because of those recons fulfilling some damned essential roles in pvp... and frankly that ship model is a travesty.

caldari: moa/eagle/onyx. nuff said.

amarr: amarr generally kicks ass, so i am gonna have to go with cruficier/sentinel, as that hull is visually unforgivable and the sentinel is a massively underused ship that those in the know fly and make very scary/effective.

i actually love the Domi and Moa...theyre kinda cool in their own way.

the Celestis hull is epic fugly, it makes no sense, has no style, just blobs protruding in different directions. same goes for the Helios.

Amarr is win for the most part, and Minnie is fail for the post part; i only like Cane, Rifter, Tornado and Loki hulls.

Celestis looks like a fetus that got aborted and has someshow survived and mutated in the sewers.

The hulls I feel must be redesigned from the ground up (due to fugliness):

Moa, Celestis, Maulus, Blackbird, Dominix, Bellicose, Imicus, Osprey

These could get away with a raven-style upgrade:

Augorer, Caracal, Atron, Thorax, Rupture, Scythe, Catalyst, Exequror, Maelstrom, Tempest, Cyclone, Brutix, Prophecy (just trim the underside so it doesn't look like a pregnant chicken)

Fugly ships that need redesign:

Amarr: Augoror and maybe the Harby and Geddon, but thats nitpicking
Caldari: Raven (yes, the new model still sux), all cruisers except Caracal. Scratch that: ALL Caldari models, none look like ships actually.
Gallente: Domi, Imicus, Celestis, Moros, Obelisk <- they all belong to a steam punk universe, not scifi!
Minmatar: Typhoon, Rupture. Many models could use a little change to make them look more streamlined and sexy.

Amarr: The Apocalypse looks unfinished and unwieldy. It could do with a Scorpion-style fundamental redesign.

Caldari: The Moa. Good lord, the Moa. The Moa's completely unsalvageable. Scrap it and start again. In fact, pretty much every asymmetrical ship in the Caldari fleet needs to be symmetricalised like the Scorpion was, pronto. Good to see they're starting to do that with ships like the Condor and the Scorpion.

Gallente: The Dominix is unsalvageable and needs a completely new model, but the king of fugly ships in Gallente space and probably the game is the Imicus. Whoever is responsible for that abomination needs to be slapped in the face and told to go and sit in the corner.

Minmatar: To be honest, I'd really like to see all Minmatar ships move away from duct-tape, scaffolding and string jury-rigging and towards the more refined, complete aesthetic of the Hurricane and the Maelstrom. I saw some concept sketches of the Typhoon and the Tempest done in this style and I really liked them. The new style of Minmatar ship is less nuts-and-bolts, but still definitively "Minmatar", and that's what counts.

Pirate: I have no problems at all with the Merlin, but give the Wyrm a unique model. It's the only pirate frigate without its own unique model, and I think that's unfair on the Guristas.

Caldari:

  • Moa: it sucks because it looks like nothing. The design just doesn't make sense. You don't even know what is rear and what is back
  • Caracal: another ship that looks like nothing. Is it supposed to resemble Caracal's ears? Because if it should, it's upside-down.
  • Condor: the concept art made by some of the CCP artists that was posted here on the forum is great, certainly better than the slanted one.


The new Raven model on SiSi looks great already, I wouldn't change it. It's asymmetrical, but it's cool asymmetrical (like Gallente), not a pile of trash.

Gallente:

  • Exequor: I find it way too overdone, with it's 3 asymmetrical thrusters.


Most Gallente ships are fine, though. They look organic and fit the theme.

Amarr:
None

Minmatar:

  • Typhoon: it could be cooler. It just looks like a flying huge container today.
  • Trasher & Cyclone: there are too many solar panels, and too close together to make any sense. It just looks distracting.


I like the rusty and pointy aspect of Minmatar overall, those ships look cool in their own way.
