EFT Installing "over" old version

I realize this maybe dead simple, but I can't find any info when I search for this problem.

I have previous version of EFT running (in Win 8.1), downloaded the new (Kronos) version and ran the install, It simply creates a new folder and .exe and does not import fits nor my Chars' API info. Am I supposed to start "from scratch" every update? Export fits from the old version and then import into the new one?

I'm sure I'm missing something.

EFT doesn't "install". You just extract and run from the extracted folder

Just move the "Characters" and "Setups" folder from the old one to the new one.

Welcome.. I usually put my extracted folder in "Documents" but you can put it wherever such as your desktop. Just don't forget where it is and don't confuse it with the old one.

You can also just designate the extraction target to be the folder of the original copy and overwrite everything. The character files are independent, and aren't overwritten. Works like a charm and has done for as long as I use EFT (which is nearly as long as I've played EVE).
