I was running these sites in an untanked exploration fit for my Cheetah. I have reasonable skills and a T2 analyzer, but I had a bad string of luck in the puzzle.

Soooo, apparently these things explode when you fail the mini game, and with plenty of damage to take out an untanked, nano exploration Cheetah.

I had read they were blowing up for 1200, and my nano'd cheetah had 1224, so I thought i would survive, but in low sec they are obviously hitting for more than 1200.

Sucks to have to eat into my "covert ops tank" by giving up speed or signature radius, but my options seem to be:
1) give up on these sites
2) drop nano/add tank to my Cheetah
3) start running in a bigger cloaky ship

I love a Cheetah for lowsec, although I have the skills to run a cloaky T3 or a force recon. Can I tank up the cheetah enough to survive these lowsec cans exploding?

I have no issue with the tanking, but is it made so not all sites drop a data. Had many not drop a thing.
