Performance Difference between Steam version and Installer

I'm thinking about downloading the MAC OSX installer version of EVE Online as i've been using the Steam version, before I download the 7.2 gig installer, would there be any performance improvement? I have a 1yr 4 month old 14" macbook pro with 16 gigs of ram 1600 MHz DDR3 memory and a 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7. What's the method of obtaining the most optimal performance with my setup? I can run with pretty high settings if I wan't to hear my fan going constantly at high RPM, but this is sub-optimal.

Any advice or comments are appreciated!
