'Mystery Sea Monster' Devours 3 meter (9 foot) Great White Shark

So in case you haven't heard the news, Nessie got bored of Scotland and decided to be a foody in Australia.

Jokes aside though, pretty interesting stuff. Wonder what could have done that? An even bigger shark like the article says? Some how I doubt it. The vast majority of our oceans are a mystery to us. Who knows what's down there, right?

Maybe one of the giant squids that like to battle with sperm whales?

This story reminds me of the Neal Asher book The Skinner. There's one plotline with humans doing human stuff, and another with nasty sea creature characters, doing nasty sea creature predator stuff.

Playing devil's advocate: the sensor was swallowed and dived. But it could have been bitten off the shark.

Q: Should we be worried? A: Nope. (...) Worry a lot if Fozzie, Masterplan, Rise, Veritas, Bettik, Ytterbium, Scarpia, Arrow, or even Greyscale leaves. Worry a little if Punkturis, karkur, SoniClover, Affinity, Goliath, or Xhagen leaves.

Clearly it was a dropbear.

I don't like swimming when I know there are minnows and seaweed around so I really hope there isn't some unknown sea monster eating great white sharks

Occam says:
Quote:

Additional study of sharks in the area provided a possible answer to this question: According to researchers, larger great white sharks were found in the spot where the original shark met its fate.

These huge sharks, the scientists say, are big enough to have eaten another great white and are able to dive at the speed and depth observed by the tracking device.

It's not unprecedented for sharks to eat other sharks, and the researchers posit that a 2-ton "colossal cannibal great white shark" is a likely culprit in this case.

You might not like catfish noodling then. Check it out at around 00:45. My cousins in Oklahoma used to do this.
