Sentries in Kronos: T2 vs Faction

With the changes to sentry drones in Kronos, faction sentry drones (like the Federation Navy Garde) now seem to be better than their T2 counterparts - they have more hp, slightly more damage and tracking, and similar range. They also require about a month's less training time to use.

Is there some advantage to using T2 sentries that I've missed?
Is Sentry Drone Interfacing 5 still worth it?

T2 sentry drones do 10% more damage when you factor the T2 spec skills in to account. So 8% more damage for most people. T2 sentry drones are also less than 1/3 of the price of faction.

However faction sentries do track slightly better and have quite a bit more HP. The range and falloff are the same between the two. Looks rather balanced to me.

T2 sentries benefit from the specialisation skills, similar to T2 weapons.

Unlike T2 weapons, which offer T2 ammo for a significant damage/utility boost to justify the 16-20+ day training time, drones only get that extra couple percent damage.

That's something that CCP seems to have overlooked when they decided to "make drones work like weapons!"

to be fair, some T2 weapons are rarely used with T2 ammo, especially in pvp. i'm not sure if 8% damage justify the high training time. i guess that's what you call balance :/

I should buy an Ishtar.

It's actually a 13% damage boost since you're also getting the 5% boost from training sentry drone op to 5. 13% is nothing to sneeze at. Sure it's only an 8%(10%) difference between faction and t2 if you do train it to 5, but you get cheaper drones that do more damage. Seems completely fair to me.

i could have swore that t2 same or better tracking than faction. The only benefit is hp.

Using the updated EFT

Dominix, 3 DDAs. Level V in Drone Interfacing, Sentry Drone Interfacing, level IV Gallente BS - a fairly typical pre-kronos drone pilots skillset..

5 x faction gardes = 596 DPS
5 x garde IIs at corresponding Gallente Drone operation skill level:

0 = 596 (I know its not possible, just for comparision)
1 = 608
2 = 620
3 = 632
4 = 644
5 = 656

Same thing for Ogres

5 x Fed Navy Ogres = 673 dps
5 X Ogre IIs at 0 GDS = 673
5 X Ogre IIs at GDS V = 740
