Well, let's just get this "Passive" thing working as it should... go for the new "gold standard" parity of 1 sp for every ISK that passes through your wallet.

Obvious and somewhat hilarious abuses and exploits aside... everyone who comes into the game should be fully skilled and flying a Titan in, oh, 3 days. P

It sure would, I could afk mine all day to gain mining sp, then I could use 2 passive shield tank drakes on alts with hobgobs to improve my drone skills, and when im done with that, small lasers in perma tanked BSs to grind gunnery. Sounds like a great system that allows me to game the system to my advantage.

What an asinine post. If only your comments were as robust as your assumptions.

Obviously it wouldn't be as simple as having SP handed to you for logging in, and it wouldn't be extremely different than it is now.

I'm not defending the integrity of this thread - don't get me wrong. I'm pretty sure this thread was just like the many that came before it with equal or less thought involved.

I don't believe the op included any real plans for it, and the last 300 times I have seen it, it used the simple formula of I do x and get sp for it in that category.

So I mine and get sp for mining
I use guns and get sp for guns
I use drones and get sp for dones.

I never assumed the bonus sp was just given for not doing anything at all. Though to be fair if I was AFK cloaking would I get SP for that? sounds legit to me.

If you don't mind though, I would like to know what part of my post was asinine again? I'm a poorly educated neckbeard who needs the obvious pointed out to him.

There should be SP rewards for taking action in EvE. As the isk faucets continue to get drawn down there needs to be other rewards for actually participating in EvE. The SP gained in this way could be distributed at the players discretion.

It will also give new players a way to "catch up", rewarding actual skill, not just time subscribed.

It also has the potential of increasing Plex sales. As players advance they will still need to buy skill books. Accelerated advancement would put SP gain way ahead of isk gain giving a players a choice of grinding to their new shiny or just shelling out the RL currency of their choice.

Discuss if you would like.

If you want to play WoW, go play WoW.

Eve has been constantly growing and staying original and innovative for 11 years without skill grind. It's not going to change now.

It was as horrible as you'd expect.
It was removed.

Clueless is still clueless, be it after several weeks or several years, 1mil sp or 100mil sp. Funny, that. Roll

This is coming from a PvE guy -- and I can STILL see how 'active' SP would break EVE.

If they'd have removed every horrible system we wouldn't have had EVE has we know it.

They just need to not reward mindless repetitions. A little message poping-up every now and then with a few extra SP, rewarding your everyday activities, from traveling to station trading, would be the way to go.

bad idea of course

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

Except that there would be a system - and that system would be discected, analysed and optimised... and because of the way the internet works that optimisation would rapidly become the way you play. You'd probably end up with a situation akin to that just prior to the removal of learning skills; "If you do anything but grind learning skills for your first month you're doing it wrong."

Discussed to death over the past 10 years.

Also, 'catching up' is done by people with real skills, not by characters with a skillpoint stat. A player who actually uses an interceptor for 6 months will always be better than a player who only trains skills for them and never flies them.

If you really need a stat to describe actual skill, EVE may not be the right game for you...

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Rewards for participating in EvE: Making isk and using your isk to do whatever you want to do. If you need additional SP gain as a motivation to play at all, then you obviously don't have fun playing this game anyway.

Way to "catch up": that's wrong. You'd give people who can play a lot an advantage in SP gain over people who can't play a lot. You'd increase the disparity in SP distribution among all players, as there will be long-time players who can play a lot, thus increasing their SP even more, and newer players who can't play a lot, thus gain SP slower than others.
