Map Improvements

I'm fairly new. Had a trial account back in 2011, but started playing again, this time paid, 6 days ago.

I use the map a lot, and I think there are a lot of things that could be improved.

For one, solar system selection is a pain. The selection area can sometimes be outside the Star Map's dot representing the solar system, and it is difficult to select a solar system that has another one just right next to it. At one point, I had to put my mouse below the opposite solar system to select the top solar system!

I would really love a filter! Like selecting which regions to display, not just one or neighboring or all. Or perhaps only star systems of a certain security status. Or even star systems of a certain nullsec security status.

Multiple filter layers I would greatly appreciate. I'm not sure how they would be represented exactly (since most things are done in colored circles that change in size), but very often I need to see two different kinds of information at once when, say, planning a route. If I go out exploring, I need to know the security status AND the ships destroyed in the last hour. Having to switch between the two is confusing and difficult in allowing one to find just the right route

Also, it would be nice to have a feature that allows you to set a route to a destination that includes or doesn't include certain security status ratings, or general spaces. Say you wanted to get to a place without having to go through low sec; the system would find the fastest but safest path. Alternatively, if you wanted to stick to low sec for security status or profitability purposes, there could be a feature for that too.

Finally, I think route estimation could be improved. One time I added several waypoints to a system several jumps away, but then I wanted to reset it. So I removed the waypoints and set my destination to the same system. The route it gave me was like 11 jumps!

I don't think there would be any problem with any of these systems, especially in an age like EVE. Very high technology and every capsuleer has a map of the GALAXY. So why can't they use all these filters? Sad

We already have that on route options.

EvE-Mail me if you need anything.

Are you talking about avoidance systems? Because for that you have to set it for every single system you want to avoid as far as I know. And besides, that wouldn't touch on if you wanted say 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 but not anything else or what not I guess.

And I don't think setting a destination and then right clicking each system in the route that is low sec and 'avoiding' is a smart idea for any future destination planning one may have

No, there are three settings: Prefer Safest, Prefer Shortest, and Prefer Lower Security (Or something like that, don't remember the exact name). They do exactly what you are suggesting.

The color of stat blotches like ships killed in the last hour is used along with it's size to differentiate the amount at a glance, without hovering over the system for a hard statistic. Changing the color would obscure the ability to judge that at a glance and make quick decisions about your route during warp, which I and many other people do very often. If you're having problems getting your mouse on a system unflatten the map after you highlight a neighboring system, so that you don't lose track of the system you want to mouse over when the camera rotates.

I prefer having each filter separate as it is, personally, because I've learned to judge each statistic differently, one at a time, and make decisions that so far have been very, very good for me. Combining filters would only muddy the waters and obscure things that I otherwise learn by taking each aspect in it's own context. I would recommend trying to learn how to do this, because, well.... It works.. Very well...

Some people like DOTLAN. I think it's an ugly piece of trash and inefficient to use in a lot of situations. But I'm in the minority, while you're probably one of the people who would like DOTLAN.
