Should we really need a survival guide to discuss topics about EVE?

Use protection. Fire condoms work just fine. Some fires are known to leave stuff on you that's so nasty you need to go to the doctor. Come now even the street fire use fire condoms now. Like they say prevention is better than a cure.

It's a 'fundamental flaw' of human nature. You can literally go to any official (or unofficial forum) behind any online video game and see the exact same 'fundamental flaws' of the forums.

I am more concerned that 'survival' and 'internet' are in the same sentence. It's not like someone is going to reach through the cable and choke you for your shiptoasting. There is no threat to my survival, so why would I need a guide for that?

Unfortunately, effective accurate communication is partially reliant on expression, tone of voice and situation.

That's missing with forum posts , so what one person is posting is filtered through the preconceptions of the reader, all without the visual and aural clues that would lead the reader(s) to understand that what is being said and what is actually meant could be two totally different things.

And thusly the flamewars are fanned with the winds of righteous (though incorrect) indignation, and mirth and hilarity breakout amongst the onlookers.

We don't need to have a survival guide. We just need to read and write with a little more patience and understanding.

And if that actually happens on the eve forums I really will believe the sky is falling chicken little

It's a ridiculous article. The site is named for someone who ran afoul of the law with regard to the internet, but chooses to blame the internet. I can type you a post naming every nail in my chicken coop with its X,Y, Z coords, and it'd be factual and honest and true, and pretty much useless information. Anyone that finds this forum threatening, shouldn't leave their bubble. You might step on a blade of grass and bruise your tender little foot. You might hear a loud noise! (eek!) Ive yet to be formally charged.

Ive yet to be formally charged.


If even 5% of the laws I've been told I have broken are real, I am in such deep trouble.

Guide.

1. These forums consist of 90% trash posts (the same 20 trolls post garbage).

2. If you want useful information there are better sources with much less garbage.

3. Hence most go elsewhere and leave the forums to the Garbagemen

4. After one hides all of the trolls the forums actually resemble a virtual stinking trash can full of garbage and a few decent posts on the floor outside of the trash.

That's a nice way of putting it.... a virtual toilet could also be used in the guide.
