just watched new EVE online video: The Prophecy; in the movie after the gate was active at 3:10 two ships was running into each other and crushed. so 6/3 update would there be damage when ships physically contacted each other? i'm really pleased that CCP brings such a key common sense into the video. anyone have any more information about this in game?

crashing moment

What ever gave you the idea that this was happening?
Every trade hub would be a complete disaster. So would fleets of more than 15 people.

The ships were EMP-ed, which shut down all systems including engines. Ships use emergency thrusters to forcefully avoid collisions with other objects, hence damageless "bumping".

If trailers signaled game mechanics, we'd have had Thanatoses suiciding into stations long, long ago.

Doubt it, because things like large fleets bridging onto a cyno can be chaotic with bumping. Specially capitals.

Because they didn't plan anything.

Speaking of stupid ideas.

Jita 4-4.

A little more realism would go a long way toward cleaning out the garbage parts of EVE.

not really.
I always go in to the centre of town when i need to buy almost anything IRL... just like i go to jita 4-4 when i want to buy almost anything in EVE.

Oh I agree if we going shopping for socks, but I'd love to see some center of town that sells aircraft carriers and just about everything else and lets you take it out like traffic or storage space doesn't exist.

If you wanted a centralized database to order anything you want (which is pretty cool) CCP can do that but it doesn't mean the products are held in one station. You could then do pickups or have delivery, UPS/FedEx style and the Jita ugly mess of ships clipping through each other ends overnight, and we could have some of the cool things people want but can't have "because of Jita 4-4"

Jita 4-4 is not that problem . If CCP would like to introduced Collision damge CCP can solved Jita 4-4 undock . and why Jita 4-4 i are talking i s just excuse because many people like to Bump Bump

. i'm sure CCP will implement Collision soon but who know how far it out month or years .

Simple explanation: the Capsule that integrates us all with our ships is also home to an ultra powerful forcefield that protects the ship from impacting with others - it only activates a few seconds or so before the ships impact and only at the point of contact, which "bounces" the ship away. The Jove never explained this technology when they gave New Eden the technology.

It is also dependant on velocity, so ships can come remarkably close when moving at slow velocities, but never quite "touch"

That helpful enough :v

So if you see something in a trailer, dont expect it to happen anytime soon.

Hell they even talked about wanting asteroid belts so big it would take an hour to fly from one end to the other. That was two years ago.

They can't move onto that because a lot of EVE players can't run DX-11. They have however started work on the DX-11 engine as the DX-11 option shows, so once they are ready to drop DX-9 support in the future it will be relatively bug free having already been ironed out a lot.

They also can't move onto that because it's a pretty oddball combination of server and client calculations. The bouncing and colliding would have to be done server-side and would therefore be completely unrelated to DX11 and tesselation.

It was more to illustrate what kind of visual effects tesselation can be used for in general, than of anything that can ever happen in EVE. Sure, they could call DX11 to light up the correct subsurface in a neat shield interaction effect, but it would have no actual impact on what happens to the two colliding bodies.

I still think showing that shield interaction effect would not only look neat, but also reduce the questions about the realism of bumping, as it would be apparent to anyone that the ships aren't actually touching physically because of some energy field interaction. :)

Doubt that too. They'd use multiple cynos if this were the case.

This is also why movie trailers are utterly worthless

Umm I thought movie trailers suck because they show the entire movie within a minute or two, including the ending scene, so the audience knows what it's going to watch. Otherwise it will be scared.

Like that 4th Rambo movie. The trailer was actually better than the movie. It had all the cool scenes but without the ridiculous bla bla. And even an additional monologue of Rambo praying.

The Eve trailers on the other hand are just completely detached from the game.

Eve too complicated? Try Astrum Regatta.

Confirmed in one of the fanfest vids (art panel maybe?) that they have put that stuff on the back-burner.
