In a WH somewhere near you...

So I scanned down a wormhole from K-space for a day-trip and a little recon. I am looking for a WH only corp to make the move into Wspace and drop the whole day-tripper crap.

Any way I jump in flying my COVOP and First thing I see is a BC just sitting there camping the hole at about 5km off. I BM the hole, launch probes, hit MWD and cloak, then jump to 100km off the nearest anom and burn away from it. Start scanning down every sig I can find, then start some basic recon on the hole. (Standard stuff - scan down Moon POS's check for activity, scan for ships off the POS's, etc.)

Well in all this that BC has just sat ther, hasn't moved, not eve a twitch. The system was big something like 10 Planets with moons, 20 POS (5 or 6 more than just a tower), 7 Sigs, and another 10 or so Anoms. Only one Sig was a WH and that was the one I cam through and the one the BC was sitting on. Well all that recon took me a good 45 minutes to find, mark, check, recheck from another couple of sides... and just get a "lay of the land." But the BC has me nervous. I'm a crap combat PvPer. I have the skills trained, I have the bling, but I don't have the instinct. So I warp in at my 250km BM on the WH back to Kspace. I check the pilot info, I check the corp, I uncloak and wait. I have a 1000km BM I'm aligned too and at max (non-mwd) speed so I can jump fast if I need to. Nothing. No response. Not a move.

Now I'm considering jump out, grabbing my own BC (though I am not happy with my fits since I lost its twin a few days ago on a day-trip to a cloaky SC with Logi support,) and seeing if the guy is AFK. Hey my thought is its an easy kill, boost my ego some get me to try more PvP, but I have this gnawing feeling its a trap. But my uncloaked baiting for response got me within 70km and I saw nothing and was able to cloak back up no problem.

I mean he could have been sitting there to roll the hole if something good jumped in, He could have been waiting to see what I did next... I've been victim to some VERY patient people before, or like it seemed he could have been totally AFK and I really don't have that kill and f'em mindset that everyone else has.

What should I have done? Would popping him have accomplished anything outside a few tears from a stupid player?

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

In that situation, it's perfectly safe to engage in any ship. You're in jump range of a K-Space hole, so if he turns out the be patient/boring, you can GTFO. I personally would have got a rookie ship for some lol-mail which he would rightly deserve for being that AFK. Should things go terribly, you've lost nothing.

Alternatively, he might have been there, but BC's have difficulty locking up frigs with their scan res but if he didn't even yellowbox then the lights are on, but no one's home. Still, it's safer knowing WH mechanics and keeping an eye on your timers. WH PvP is usually either someone being dumb or a trap. If it was a trap and you warped away, he's likely to have had friends somewhere, so you could have been scanned down or landing in a bubble when you try to leave. I'd have hugged the WH and jumped if it got too hot.

That guy was most likely afk or assumed to be cloaky. Usually it's best to bump them some 20k off the hole (that's like bump twice with a vexor) and then position yourself in between him and the exit. Now you can kill him without him being able to jump back, while remaining rather close to the hole in case his 3 cloaky t3s decloak.

Actually just yesterday had a buzzard baiting me. Burned some 170km, killed buzzard, their legions/prots start de cloaking, I start cloaking up. (5s targeting delay for them :>)

Especially when you're close to any wormhole, it never hurts to bite the bait.

Thanks for the advice. I plan to fly a bomber for the next time I see something like that, I can cloaky scan with my bomber I just can't fit my combat launcher, makes my WH recon before I run anything harder to get done.

All your problems can be solved with a mobile depot. Just refit on the fly. Even with the limited cargo hold in a bomber you can throw a launcher in there even if you have to offlline a torp. You could even throw in some of those nifty midslot modules.

Yes that would be the best way, I've thought about it too, I just need to check space for my fits and depot. It also means a little more prep work and less space in my cargo for the cake I like to send to Bob each time I go daytripping.

Might as well throw down, worst case you hop on back through the WH and fly off.

He's probably there waiting for something else. I've sat on HS WH's doing that before, waiting for a polarisation or to try and bait people out. You get the occasional person who's a bit too overconfident because it's a HS WH.
