See my sig to make a complaint on humanitarian grounds... we outsource all that now

Which has nothing to do with what I said.

This socialising can be done less intrusive,
simply by talking in local and linking to the youtube vids of your music.

Not really, no. I was thinking for example of jumping into a new system while solo roaming, hearing music that you like*, then chatting with the dude that's broadcasting it. Way to meet new people.

I don't usually type 'any [insert huge list of artists since I personally love good quality music of all genres] fans in here?' in local of every single system I jump in. Lol And I also enjoy discovering new artists I've never heard about yet.

*Because I'd have the option turned on, you'd have it perma-off obviously... ah, boring details...

A good mic and solid TS connection and I can do this for free without bothering people in local

I thought the whole point was to bother local...

Okay so there's this option that's turned off by default.
It will be, because the amount of petitions from new players
would drown the GMs.

And who streams the music? CCP?
They don't have unlimited bandwith.

Seriously, you can have this already by starting your own community for it
and advertising for it. No need for CCP to get involved at all.
Needs a bit of coding, though.

Services and software for this exists plentyfull and is free.

What's the point?

At its core, the point is to give players a powerful and easy-to-use tool to creatively influence the social space around them (corp, fleet, grid, system).

The tool could be freely used ''for good' to enrichen a corp or fleet identity or create a pleasing ambiance for everyone to share, or 'for bad' to blast intimidating war-music into the enemy fleet's ears or even just to plss-off the locals, daring them to warp to the music source and shoot it down.

Possibilities would be endless, though sure you may find them obnoxious or distracting to core EVE gameplay. But just imagine your favorite movie without its soundtrack. Big smile

this sounds nice but i see one problem...

... does Eve have sound? Shocked

Maybe read the OP? Lol

Anyway, TL;DR is:

- Third party streams the music - CCP just codes the interface (with third party's help)

- Players pay 1 PLEX to stream X hours of music. Pay-per-use is better than a flat monthly fee imo, since you won't be streaming 24h a day. I honestly have no idea of the current prices, but say it's competitive with any other pay-per-listen service that lets you freely choose your tracks from a huge archive

- Third party takes care of royalties and such - CCP just makes a gobal deal and gives them an agreed % of PLEX revenue

- It's an in-game feature so you can use either a) simple 'right-click' options to stream to your fleetmates, corpmates, etc. or b) highslot mods or deployables to stream on-grid or system-wide to any other player

- Say the override works this way: OFF >> your personal stream >> on-grid >> system-wide. Or something like that

- 'Competitive' part works this way: only one can transmit 'THE SIGNAL' on-grid (say higher meta mods win, same-meta level cancel eachother out) and only one deployable may be anchored in system at a time. Want to broadcast your signal, have to destroy the existing deployable (say easily scannable, no reinforcement, 50,000 HP)

Sorry it wasn't a TL;DR I've added some details. :)

That's it - pretty simple actually.

Was hoping somebody would be inspired by the concept and improve/build upon it.

Not much enthusiasm so far TBH, but we'll see. Big smile

Imagine you could listen to your own personal playlist while playing EVE... Yes that's what mp3 players are for BUT...

Imagine you could broadcast your playlist to all your fleet... Nice, huh?

Now, imagine you could broadcast your playlist to everybody on-grid with you, say via a 'SpaceAmp' utility highslot mod... Ride of the Valkyries, anyone? Or maybe airhorn Wrecking Ball if you're in PL...

What about broadcasting it to the entire system, with a 'SpaceAmp' deployable? Make your home system rock! Or funky, or classy jazz...

Just imagine travelling through New Eden and listening to a different musical style in each system... And praising (or disapproving of) the locals' tastes in local chat...

Do you prefer your space slient? No problem, scan the 'SpaceAmp' and shoot it down! Then maybe replace it with your own, possibly playing 'The Sound of Silence'...

If CCP made a deal with any music streaming website that allowed you to create your playlist out of thousands of songs, developed a simple EVE-client interface (also handling the in-game broadcast 'rules') and let the partner handle all the streaming (no additional EVE server load), would you pay PLEX for the service?

For the sake of discussion, say 1 PLEX gave you 20 hours of streaming 'rights'. You get to decide all the songs, when to play them and who (if anyone) to broadcast them to, also using in-game tools to interact with other players (modules, deployables).

Deployable space boomboxes would be a hilarious April Fools gag.
